BULLET POINTS FROM THIS EPISODE:

  • What does hustle like a mother mean to you?
    • In New York City, there’s this vibe that if you’re not constantly hustling like that, you won’t survive. I loved that energy and I felt motivated kind of by that hustle that exists there. One of my fears of moving to St. Louis was losing that energy and losing the hustle because my career defined me there.
    • After having my son, I realized that the hustle is so much more than just a career, right? I mean, because there’s this mom hustle too. I think it can be really empowering. And I feel like having him fulfilled this void that I never even knew really existed.
  • I want you to tell us a little bit more about your story. Why did you start this 10 years ago? What was your calling to learn more about this and get into the aesthetic industry, and how did you land right here in St. Louis now with Metro Med Spa?
    • I graduated from college and started in pharmaceutical sales. I got hired by this company. It was a startup called Alterra and it was a skin tightening device. That’s when my journey in aesthetics started, and that was over 10 years ago and it was in New York City. My husband also worked at Alterra. That’s how we met.
    • In December of 2014, I decided to move here because he had three children. I instantly became a mom of three by love. Then we have two children together now for a total of five, so a blended family. In the midst of all this happening, I quit my corporate job. We purchased the business in November of 2017. I quit my corporate job in August of 2018.
  • You focus really on building a business that’s solution-based and a business culture that is solution-based. Can you tell us a little bit more about that? What that means for you, for Metro Med Spa, for your employees, and your customers?
    • Culture to me is so important and I think for a service-based business, it really affects the experience of our clients as well. It’s a focus of ours. Our mission at Metro Med Spa is to build an empowering community in a space that offers an accessible set of treatments for women of every age and lifestyle. That mission of empowering women starts with the way that I lead our team.
    • I want them to be authentic around what it is that they’re feeling every day, open communication. I have an open door policy and I feel like I want to hear things. I want to hear honest feedback from clients. And I want to hear honest feedback from them. I think this kind of leads into this cultural approach that I’ve been researching more recently around managing to wholeness, not happiness
  • What are some of the things that you really focus on when you’re trying to build this team of people that’s going to share your vision, that’s going to be great client facing, and also be a valuable member of the internal team?
    • First and foremost, experience, right? We focus on providing accessible aesthetics, and with that comes experienced providers that are willing to learn and to grow.
    • Secondly is just a level of maturity around wanting to grow. And I don’t mean that from an age perspective. I mean it from we’re a business of all women that serve all women. And so I think that you kind of need to be able to embrace empowering other women. We look for people that take that process seriously because people entrust us with their faces, their bodies, and their Insecurities that they have.
    • Customer service is really important. We have probably over 300 Google reviews now. I’m so proud of the fact that the descriptions are like I was welcomed and they were warm and they were kind because you’re handling people’s hearts and their insecurity. I look for people that exude that and feel like there’ll be a really good fit for us given all the things that we do here.
  • Can you tell everybody where they can find you?
