So, over the years, I have had many skincare routines. I’ve talked about a lot of them on this site (I’ve been writing since 2015, so I’ve gone through MANY routines in the last 8 years – find them here, here, here and here). I have acne prone skin and to be honest, most of the routines I’ve shared have worked to an extent or else I wouldn’t have shared them. But I’m on a serious journey to start healing my skin, scarring and premature aging so instead of relying on the products I am selecting myself, I’ve decided to enlist the professionals. Let’s jump right into it.

Acne-Prone Skincare Regimen: Esthetician Approved

note: everything except the sal-c toner is approved as pregnancy and breastfeeding safe according to my OB.

My esthetician is Marlie Hoyt, and she is at St. Louis Metro Medspa. I LOVE Metro Medspa. This is the only place I will get my facials, botox, injectables, skincare, etc. Every single person I’ve been to at the Medspa has been incredibly knowledgable and just a real joy to work with. The owner, Kate, is incredible and a personal friend! She was actually on my podcast a few years ago – you can listen to her episode HERE!

Face Reality Cleanser

I have really loved this cleanser. It’s gentle on my skin, hydrating (so needed with all the acne products I’m currently using) and it removes my makeup! I also love that it’s sulfate-free.

Face Reality sal-C Toner

So this is the only product NOT approved for breastfeeding/pregnancy according to my OB, so when I need to – I switch to the Face Reality Calming facial toner. BUT – if you are neither of those things, this is AMAZING for acne. It’s not drying and it creates a beautiful, even skin tone. LOVE.

Face Reality 5% l-mandelic Serum

I am a BIG fan of mandelic acid and have been using it in some form for the last 1.5 years. It’s powerful, gently exfoliating and brightening.

Face Reality 2.5% Acne Med

This is a benzoyl peroxide treatment for acne and fights acne causing bacteria to prevent acne from happening in the first place. You have to work up your tolerance to the product – but it’s so worth it!

Face Reality Hydrabalance Hydrating Gel

To combat the drying effects of the above acne products – this is an important step in my routine. It can be used as extra moisture underneath the Clearderma and sunscreen!

Face Reality Clearderma Moisturizer

This is a thick, comfortable moisturizer than doesn’t break you out! It’s isn’t too thick that you can’t wear it during the day – but it definitely hydrates and leaves you feeling fresh.

Face Reality Ultimate Protection spf 28

I LOVE this sunscreen. It’s mattifying, doesn’t leave a white cast, and works great overtop of all my above mentioned acne products.
