Here was my problem. I wanted all of the makeup brushes and had no idea where to begin. I walked through the brush aisle at Sephora and was instantly overwhelmed. So I did what any woman would do in this situation. I consulted my favorite makeup artists and several Sephora employees and landed on 3 brushes that you won’t be able to do your makeup without. The biggest mistake I see girls make in their makeup application is their brush type and quality. Ladies, not all brushes are created equal. It took me far too long to realize that the reason my makeup didn’t look like the YouTube beauty queen’s was because I had $3 brushes and they..didn’t.

Three Brushes You Need In Your Bag.

So what can you do about it? My best advice when building your makeup brush collection is to start slow. Gather your basic brushes and then start adding the fun ones little by little. The big question you have now, I’m sure, is this: “But what are those essential basic brushes, Taylor?” And to that I say:

Basic Eye Brush

The first brush you’ll need is a basic eye brush. It is smaller, so you can do the crease on your eyelid without putting too much product on (this is key. Too big a brush = muddy eye color). This particular brush is Bdellium Maestro Small Shader #772, valued at $11.00 (a serious, serious steal). It is perfect for packing the shade down in specific spots without fall out. You can also use this brush for concealer (talk about double duty — this is especially important when you’re just starting to build your collection).

Notice the very densely packed bristles. That is huge when looking for a shadow brush. You want to make sure you get as much product on in one swipe as possible. It also works with both cream and powder eyeshadow (remember how I said it rocked double duty? still doin’ it)

Basic Blending Brush

The second brush you need in your makeup arsenal is the basic blending brush. This is imperative to getting those “smoked-out” looks that all our favorite makeup up artists love to do. I vote you start with a smaller blending brush so you can learn how to wield the brush the most effectively, then go up in size. This one is Bdellium Maestro Small Tapered Blending #783. It neatly applies eyeshadow to your crease and blends it out so you can achieve those sexy smokey eyes (which is what we all really want in life, right next to perfect winged eyeliner and highlight that makes you look like a glazed donut).

The tapered end is what makes this brush so spectacular. You can easily blend the crease from the inner corner to the outer corner. It is best used with only powders because it blends the powder out and cream eyeshadow would just stick.

Face Blending Brush

Brush #3 is probably my most favorite. It really is a brush you shouldn’t be living without. When I finally got my hands on it, I couldn’t believe I had ever been doing my makeup without it. This brush is Bdellium Maestro Face Blending #987. It takes your contour to the next level. It is on the pricer end at $25, but I feel is so SO worth it. We all want to mimic the sky-high cheek bones of Karlie Kloss and this can give you the wings to get there. The best part is, you can use cream or powder to achieve that look! So much duality in this post, I love it!

It is so fluffy omg. It really does work magic on your face. It is almost impossible to screw it up because of how easily it blends the product on your face. Have I convinced you that you need one of these yet? Yes..? No..?

PIN THIS FOR LATER:

So if you don’t have any brushes, I suggest at least buying these to get started. You don’t have anything to lose, especially since any order over $20 gets free shipping (I’m all about deals you know?) Doing makeup shouldn’t have to be stressful. When you use the right brushes, your makeup will look instantly more professional. I learn things the hard way so you don’t have to.

So get out here. Get yourself some brushes and show me the makeup you do with it!!! Tag me in your makeup photos using the tag @blondeandambitiousblog and @bdelliumtools. We want to see that looks you create!!

What are your favorite makeup brushes? Which one can’t you live with out? Let me know in the comments and be sure to share this post on your favorite social media so everyone can hear about the good news.
