If you haven’t read my 2022 reading goals blog post – here it is right here! Read it first so you know what we started with. Basically, last year I had a goal of 50 books and absolutely failed SO miserably because #life – so this year I decided to make my list much more reasonable with my 24 book goal. SO. Now that it’s the end of the year, let’s see how it went!
WHAT’S ON MY NIGHTSTAND: END OF THE YEAR READING CHECK IN
Just to recap – here was my book list for 2022:

And let me tell you – I ended the year by completing 145 books.
I made my goal smaller this year so that I didn’t tragically fail like last year – but I totally underestimated a couple things.
- The amount of time I’d have during my maternity leave & into Noah’s first year. I ended up reading every time I nursed / pumped / fed Noah
- Falling back completely in love with reading again once I got into the Sarah J. Maas books. I haven’t been able to read fast enough this year because I just remembered how much FUN reading could be.
SO – what did I discover this year? I discovered New Adult fantasy novels (Sarah J. Maas sent me into a high fantasy tailspin so I devoured basically everything I could get my hands on), cartoon-cover romance novels (WHEW the spice), and murder mystery thrillers. I still had some YA novels I ended up loving and series’ that I was able to continue or finish. A few books fell really flat, but I love that this year I pretty much just loved reading to love reading, without really disliking anything.

A few books/series’ totally stood out to me as my favorites for the year –
- Sarah J. Maas’ entire bibliography – Throne of Glass has fundamentally changed me as a person, and ACOTAR reignited my love of reading.
- Book Lovers by Emily Henry – E.Henry introduced me to the genre of romantic fiction and I fell in love.
- Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas – Aaron Blackford and I will not be taking any questions.
- Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmas – This was one of the most beautifully written books I’ve had the pleasure of reading. The story, the prose, the imagery. It was stunning and I’m heartbroken that I can’t read it for the first time again.
- The Folk of the Air Series by Holly Black – I have never in my life loved a couple as much as I love Jude and Cardan. They’re an absolutely mess and I’m OBSESSED with them.
