Happy Friday! I hope you had the most glorious week! I have spent the week taking exams and studying my tush off for midterms, so it is safe to say I am pretty drained. BUT. I carved pumpkins with my darling this week AND I AM GOING TO A HAUNTED CORN MAZE TONIGHT. EEEEP. I hope you are taking advantage of this October by going to as many haunted houses as you possibly can. For today’s post, I want to show you how to carve a pumpkin LIKE A PRO without the crazy mess, an easy and delicious way to use those pumpkin seeds, and because I love you all, I have even included 4 stencils you can print out and use to carve your pumpkins this year. Ya welcome.
How To Carve A Pumpkin Like A Pro + A Pumpkin Seed Recipe
STEP ONE: Pick your poison.
Choose which carving utensils you are going to be using and then pick your cute little pumpkin! I chose a beast of a pumpkin because go big or go home, amiright? We bought a $2.99 package of carving utensils from Walmart and called it a day. I didn’t feel like I particular needed a super expensive carving kit because I usually lose them before the next year, anyways.
STEP TWO: No buts, no guts.
Hiiii, Adam’s leg! Next step is to clear the pumpkin of all of the gross, slimy junk that is hanging out inside. I always make sure to scrape the inside of the walls so that I have a clean interior and none of the little slimy strings catch of fire when you put the candle inside. Once you scoop the guts out, make sure to put aside your seeds for later, as well.
STEP THREE: Choose your design!
I chose the Oogey Boogey Man as my design this year because I love the Nightmare Before Christmas with all my heart. If you are not experienced in pumpkin carving, you are welcome to use a pattern to outline your design. I drew my design free hand and ignored the pattern altogether.
STEP FOUR: CARVE!!!
This is the best part! I love carving! Take your fun little tools and carve away! The tools I bought at the store are more than adequate to carve through my cute little pumpkin, so you won’t need to grab a sharper knife. They are little enough for tiny hands, too! My baby sister and I used these as kids because they have a good grip.
STEP FIVE: Go ahead and admire your work.
Ta-Da!! The Oogey Boogey Man has never looked better.
STEP SIX: Make your yummy pumpkin seeds and enjoy!

Roasted pumpkin seeds almost make up for the giant mess we make carving pumpkins. Almost. 😉
Love your pumpkin! We have started a tradition in our house where my husband will carve a pumpkin and my daughter will “help” him, she is two. All the while watching Charlie Brown The Great Pumpkin. It is such a fun night!

I’m so glad I came across this. I just bought my first pumpkin this year and my boyfriend and I are planning to carve it this weekend. I’ve never carved one before so I’m sorta clueless. Lol also I’m so glad you gave a pumpkin seed recipe. Thanks so much for the info????
You are so welcome!
Girl, love how you motivate us by sharing how to cut this pumpkin “like a pro!” haha… I kept thinking, “yasssss….like a pro!” I mean, who else would you do it? Any other way would not be fabulous. 😉
Exactly!!! My thoughts, too! Why do anything if it isn’t like a pro ? 😉
That is a very fun and spooky pumpkin! I am always looking for good ideas seeing we carve at least a half a dozen every year!!
For the longest time I just could not fathom carving the pumpkin, and I always watched others. Now I’m totally down to do it, and I’m not terrible. I did good last year 😉 xx Adaleta Avdic
My pumpkins never turn out this good! We painted them one year, and I liked that so much better! ha!

I have never carved a pumpkin, but this is something I wanted to do. Thank you for sharing these tips.
What a great idea to use the boogey man for the pumpkin! You did really well without the stencil btw. I had no idea there were pumpkin carving tool sets but that makes total sense now that I think about it. Happy Halloween!!!
Great job with Oogey Boogey Man! I’ll try to do some free hand drawing and ignore the pattern too next time (hopefully I get to succeed lol!) bookmarking your recipe on those pumpkin seeds! xx

You carve like a pro! I am a fan of painting on my pumpkins so I don’t have to get my hands messy. Crazy, huh? My husband likes carving, though, so I am happy when he does the messy work!

Your pumpkin looks great! The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite movies!

I could have used this last week! My husband and I carved pumpkins for our first time and WOW! It was so much harder than we thought because we did it SO WRONG!
OH gosh. How did you do it?!!?!
Awesome job carving the jack-o-lantern. I have never been that good at carving those things. I am glad to see someone has carving skills.
