Happy Tuesday, everyone! Today is a BONUS post since I’m working on cutting down to 3x a week in preparation for baby Jack. He should be making his appearance any day now (cue the low-key panic + high-key excitement). Because baby is coming SO SOON I have been nesting like crazy – from re-organizing all my closets and drawers, to cleaning the floors daily, to scrubbing the kitchen and appliances. I just want my house to be clean and ready for our little dude. A few of the things I wanted done before Jack gets here were carpet cleaning and carpet repairs. That’s where Sams Carpet Cleaning & Repairs comes in – so let’s talk about it!

ABOUT CARPET CLEANING:

Carpet cleaning is a really important part of home ownership that a lot of people put off because they forget how necessary it actually is – ESPECIALLY if you have young children or pets. According to professionals, homes with small kids and/or multiple pets should be having their carpets professionally cleaned ever 6-9 months. I had NO idea it needed to be done this frequently. I always thought maybe every 12-18 months, but nope. It needs to be a lot more often than that. Kids come with their own messes and bacteria, and pets shed fur, dander and micro bacteria that just can’t be picked up by a regular vacuum. We had the carpets cleaned in August when we moved into the house, so it’s been 10 months already. Time for a clean!

FIVE reasons you should have your carpets professionally cleaned this summer:

For your health.

Carpet is great – but it also houses bacteria, dust particles and allergens. Dust particles specifically have been linked to breathing problems, sinus problems, and nose problems. If you don’t take care to make sure these allergens/contaminants aren’t cleaned and removed from your carpets, you and your family could suffer from health problems that otherwise may not be an issue. This is especially true for young children (those who are crawling closest to the carpet). Vacuuming is a great way to keep up with your carpet maintenance in between professional cleanings but it isn’t enough to completely rid your carpet of these contaminants.

For prevention.

A lot of things can be prevented with regular carpet cleanings! Obviously, reducing or eliminating infestations of dust mites and bacteria. In addition to that – carpets in places that have high humidity levels are at high risk of mold growth in the carpet (gross). Getting your carpets cleaned routinely can help in the prevention of mold growth and keep your carpets clean and fresh.

For smell.

Let’s face it. If you’ve got a big family, little kids, or multiple pets – your carpets are getting put through the wringer. We don’t even have a little one yet but our pets do enough on their own. We HATE feeling like our house smells like animal (and I work really hard to make sure that absolutely isn’t the case) – but carpet traps smells! And our pets don’t really have “off limit” areas in the home. The dog doesn’t go into the basement, but the cats still do. One way to ensure your home isn’t carrying any unwanted odors is to make sure those carpets are cleaned regularly.

For appearance.

I love the way carpet looks after it’s clean. It’s always a little bit brighter, and a little more fluffy. I especially love when my office is cleaned because somehow makeup always makes its way onto the white carpet underneath me (I DON’T GET IT) and I end up with a weird beige colored ring around my makeup chair. Carpet cleaning removes this almost instantly and makes the entire room look SO much cleaner. We don’t have pets that go to the bathroom in the house (thank goodness) but even just Archer’s dusty or muddy paws can track in stains and darkening of the fibers so it’s worth it for the appearance purpose alone!

For the life of your carpet.

When you move into a new home or you have new carpet installed, you want it to last as long as possible. It’s important. Regular cleanings ensure that your carpet ALWAYS looks its best and lasts as long as possible. It helps to really work on those high traffic areas and keeps everything looking brand new!

Sams came in with all of their cleaning equipment and really took their time on each room of my home that was carpeted – so: the master bedroom, the nursery, the office and the basement/basement stairs. They were SO gentle and careful with all of my furniture and made sure they moved everything they could to get as much of my carpet as possible.

ABOUT CARPET REPAIRS:

Not everyone will need this service – but if you are like me and you have cats that aren’t declawed, you may just need it, too. We had 5 areas in our house that needed repair. The master bedroom door frame, the office door frame, a section by our master bedroom window and two stairs. They had been pulled up and shredded by Chester, our chunky tom cat. If he finds even a TINY string out of place – we are in trouble. We’ve since put claw caps on him after getting the carpets repaired in an attempt to not have to repair it again while we live in this house. BUT since the damage was already done – we needed to have it fixed.

Unfortunately, when carpet gets pulled up like that, not only is it super unsightly, but it’s also a hazard because it can expose the nail strip underneath the carpet and can puncture your feet if you aren’t careful when walking over the threshold of the room. What I didn’t want was Jack learning to walk or crawl and ending up hurting himself on one of the exposed nails.

My husband was skeptical that they would be able to get it to look as good as new but they ABSOLUTELY did. You would NEVER know we had any kind of carpet damage in these areas. They look absolutely fantastic. I’m beyond impressed. Not only do I feel better about the nails being covered, but I also feel good knowing that our house looks as nice as it did when we first moved into it. I don’t have to be embarrassed anytime someone comes into our home and needs to access any of those areas, which is a really great feeling.

They used really neat equipment to tackle this project like: kool glide, power and knee stretchers just to name a few.
