The other day I heard someone say “overalls were out of style” and A) that really offended me because I freaking love my overalls and B) when worn correctly, overalls can be insanely adorable. Like, what gives lady?! What kind of bad experience did you have?! With that being said, I’m going to show you four reasons you can and should rock overalls and still look like a grownup. Let’s do this.

Four Reasons You Should Be Wearing Overalls Right Now

P.S. — THANK YOU MICHELLE from Michelle & Logan Photography for the hours of laughter and beautiful pictures.

Number One: They’re ridiculously comfortable.

You heard me: they are incredibly comfortable. You never have pull your pants up after sitting down and they don’t stretch out during the day so your butt always looks fantastic. Win, win and win. Don’t get me wrong, I love my skinny jeans and crops like the rest of you. I do. But what if…hear me out…what if you could sit and stand and jump and dance…all without fear that you may flash the people behind you? Overalls let you chill out with the knowledge that you are killing it.

Number Two: They can be dressed up OR dressed down.

For some reason people think overalls = dirty, down south and farmer-esque. I’m here to tell you that they have serious potential to be girlie and chic, all at the same time. Pair them with some heels and a floral top and you are ready to go downtown with your ladies. Alternatively, you can put on a comfy striped tee, converse and baseball hat and head to the park or go on a lazy Sunday afternoon bike ride. The options are literally endless. Plus, they come in a million colors. You can opt for the classic denim (pictured here), chic white denim, or army green…whatever suits for fancy for the time being.

Number Three: You can play with details.

Being able to mix and match outfits is one of my top priorities when purchasing anything. If I am only going to be able to wear it as one outfit, why bother? That’s is why overalls rock my world. They have so many sweet details that you can play with something different every time! I chose to pair my mottled sunglasses, hot pink lipstick and my signature bar necklace with my denim overalls. This particular pair has the cutest front pocket. It’s all about the little things.

Number Four: They will make you stand out in a crowd.

When I think about fashion, I think about what it is that is going to make me stand out as a stylist. Since overalls are still one of those items that hasn’t quite hit main stream (I mean, technically…it did in the 80s and 90s…but it hasn’t come back all the way yet), it is safe to say you will probably be the only in the room wearing them. And that sounds like trendsetter to me. You see supermodels and celebrities rocking them all the time. So why can’t you? Trick question. You can. Snag a pair from your local thrift shop and dress it the way you want. Who cares if some people think “overalls are out”. Fashion isn’t about what other people think. In the words of Blake Lively, “I never think about how other people will respond to the way I dress. Dressing up is all about reflecting the way I feel”.

So there you have it. Overalls in a totally chic, girlie and playful way.  Anyone who knows me knows that I like to pull these babies out any chance I possibly can. I love that they are versatile. They also work for every body type. The point of getting ready in the morning is to look and feel your very best. When you dress for yourself, you gain a world of confidence that you didn’t know you had. Forget about what other people think and do this for you.

  1. Plus you won’t worry about flashing anyone on your Saturday afternoon bike ride! Win, win, win! Great post! I’ve wanted to try and style overalls since they came back (wish a super flattering cut!) but haven’t actually taken the plunge! This is a great post to get started with!

  2. Your outfit is phenomenal – you look absolutely killer! No one would DARE question your fashion sense wearing this! In my opinion, “out of style” is completely in one’s own head and comfort zone. If you felt great and strutted your stuff in corduroy bell-bottoms, you’d probably still look perfectly en pointe!

  3. you look so awesome in these! I’ve been wanting to get a pair for a while now and I think you’ve convinced me! Plus, I could totally twin with my two year old and her overalls 😉

  4. I am not sure overalls would like good on a person who is fat like me 😀
Like I always drool over these whenever I am shopping but I never end up buying these due to the fear of looking bad in these. 🙁

  5. You are so adorable and you pull off overalls so well!! I haven’t had overalls since high school, but maybe I need to do a revisit after seeing this!

  6. Wow, I was in the camp of “overalls are out of style” until I saw this post-girl you make those overalls look good! I absolutely adore how you styled them, the little tee makes a big statement!

  7. I think the key for “trendier” overalls is that they fit the way yours do, almost like you could take the top part off and they’d just be regular jeans. The overalls I had as a kid were so baggy they would’ve fallen off me without those straps! Love the look.
