Happy #fashionwednesday, y’all! I love this week because I threw in TWO fashion posts (yesterday’s was my 50 swimsuits under $50 post – in case ya missed it). Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite pieces of clothing for this summer: linen shorts. In particular, HIGH-WAISTED linen shorts. There are so many perks to this article of clothing, namely:

  1. Breathable in the summer heat (and humidity)
  2. Makes your waist look SO TINY and fabulous
  3. Ultra comfortable to sit in

They are a win-win-win kind of situation. I am obsessed – so I’m going to show you the BEST way to style these fab shorts and two alternative outfits to rock them with, as well! Let’s dive into this.

As stated above – these shorts are literally my lifesaver this summer. I love how easy and breezy they are – they aren’t stuck to my skin, they aren’t super short, they are light and airy. Honestly, they’re the literal perfect short.

Step One: Find the right top.

I love the way the bodysuit looks with these shorts. The contrast between the super body hugging top and the loose fitting shorts is #fashiongoals, imo. I also like how the top doesn’t in any way take away from the delicate details of these shorts. The shorts have these really adorable pinstripes, a sweet bow detail, a cinched waist – I didn’t want to take away from that AT ALL when it came to pairing a top with it. I do like how the ruffle sleeve detail at the elbow enhances the shorts as opposed to competing with them. It’s all a find balance.

ALTERNATIVE TOP: You could potentially go the other direction with tops when it comes to these shorts. A really loose and flow-y top tucked right in the front of these shorts and then layered with a chambray button would be SO CUTE OMG. I love the idea of this look and I will definitely be pairing the two together over the next few months.

Step Two: Shoes…shoes..shoes!

I grabbed my tried and true gold slides from Soft Surroundings and they worked PERFECTLY with this entire outfit. The shorts have a tiny band of gold running through the pinstripes so in combination with the gold statement necklace, it all worked seamlessly together to create the best look. You could also potentially style your hair in a messy pony tail and tie a black and white striped bandana around it for a chic accessory.

ALTERNATIVE SHOES: If you decided to go with the white top/chambray combination – you could totally pair this look with some plain white sneakers OR some straw wedges, depending on if you want to dress this look up or down. I think the white sneakers would be really fun and easy to walk in, while making the entire look way more casual and wearable for every day.

Step Three: Accessorizing like a champion.

This outfit calls for one of two things: a loud necklace OR loud earrings – but not both. I went sans earrings altogether and just opted for my favorite palm necklace. It’s so versatile and fun (and also was featured in my May Monthly Obsessions – as were those gold slides!). This necklace is only $16 and worth every penny!

ALTERNATIVE ACCESSORIES: If you decide to skip the necklace and go with earrings – these gold dangly beauties are PERFECT for this outfit. They tie that little bit of gold in without stealing the show. I am a big, big fan.

  1. You look gorgeous, Taylor! I have been on the hunt for a few pairs of shorts like this because I love the look of them and how they contrast with a tight top/bodysuit! I hope I find a few pairs soon. 🙂

  2. Those shorts are so cute! I love that they’re paper-bag high waist too because that’s a really flattering silhouette on all body types!
