Happy FRI-YAY, everyone! One thing I am incorporating into the lifestyle portion of my blog this year is home remodel. Adam and I have talked about remodeling portions of our house since we bought it in 2018, and then we got pregnant with Jack and those projects got put on hold. Now that our little guy is 6 months old, we are ready to dive into our projects again! Yay! I FINALLY put up my gallery walls in our kitchen and the hallway and they look awesome, so I’ll be sharing some tips on easily creating one in your home and a list of all our home remodel goals for 2020 to keep myself accountable. Let’s dive into this!

How To Create The PERFECT Gallery Wall + Our 2020 Home Remodel GOALS!

OUR GALLERY WALL:

I’ve always been a sucker for gallery walls because I love pictures. ALL THE PICTURES. I love looking at photos of our little life and we had so many beautiful family photos done in 2019 (maternity shoot, fresh 48 and our family photos) that I wanted to frame.

I prefer gallery walls to be made with just photos, but art is also really pretty depending on your room. I may switch it up in the future! For now, I’m really content with the picture gallery.

I started with heading to Pinterest and searching “gallery wall sizes”, which gave me a starting point. I chose the cluster designs that I liked and made note of the frame size/photo size for each cluster of photos. From there, I cut out brown paper in the size and laid them out on the floor so I could see the grouping in real time. I taped these up on the wall once I had the right cluster organized on the floor. I left these here for a few days so that I could see what it would feel like walking past them every day and make sure the sizing looked appropriate on the wall space.

Then, I order prints from Shutterfly. I alternate between Shutterfly and Snapfish for my prints. They’re both very comparable in price and quality and I usually go with who is running the better deal at the time. I ordered a few extra in a couple sizes just in case I changed my mind once they got here.

Once I had the pictures, I went to Hobby Lobby to pick up basic black frames. You can kind of let your imagination go wild here. You want the frames to go with the vibe of your home. Adam and I are very minimalist in our decor so sleek black frames made the most sense for us. I can see myself switching that up in the future depending on how we decorate our next home.

2020 HOME REMODEL GOALS:

  1. Redo ENTIRE guest bathroom
    1. I’m talking gutting the whole thing. Ripping out the sink, toilet and tub. New floors, new paint, new decor. The whole thing. I’m using these tips from Allstate to make sure we maximize our bathroom budget!
  2. Rip out our carpeted stairs and refinish the wood underneath.
    1. We hate our carpeted stairs. The cats destroy them and they just end up looking grungy and dirty (honestly I hate carpet period – so one day I want to rip all the carpet out).
    2. We want to paint and refinish the wood stairs underneath! I made sure to check all these things off when we made our plan for this.
  3. Redo the backyard.
    1. We are ripping out the deck and putting in a concrete patio instead and building a pergola over top to hang twinkle lights on.
    2. We want to install a fire pit and get patio furniture.
    3. We also will be completely reseeding the entire backyard with grass and leveling some of it. We don’t have a big backyard but it is ALL mud from the dog and it slopes pretty badly.

We also have some smaller home projects we want to work on like pantry and hall closet organization and new furniture for the living room. These are some great ideas for smaller home reno projects, too!

I will be documenting everything on instagram and in blog posts so be sure to stay tuned for that!! We are starting the bathroom remodel beginning of March and will be working on the stairs end of March / early April. Backyard will commence end of April / early May (depending on when we can get someone out to quote us for the concrete pour).
