I have become really obnoxious about keeping my kids stuff super organized. I’m talking their first outfit from the hospital, blessing gowns / suits, ultrasound photos, pregnancy tests, toddler artwork, all the things. I have seen all the pre-done boxes but they’re always insanely expensive and have way more than I need. SO I decided to make my own keepsake bin myself and it turned out SO good. It has everything I need with room to add. Let’s jump into it.
Baby Keepsake Storage Organization
I knew I was going to want a memorabilia box early on, so when these went on sale at Target a few years ago, I grabbed 3. They are the perfect size with room to grow. I love that they’re clear so I can see what is inside them, plus they’re sturdy and stackable.
I decided to add a label to each of the bins with the appropriate child’s name on the outside for easy identification, too, but since they’re clear, you’ll likely be able to see exactly who’s bin in it without the label, too. I just think it looks a little cleaner and more organized!
The art folder I chose folds out, and is waterproof, so their precious toddler and preschool art can be saved forever. I don’t save everything but every so often I just look at a piece Jack or Noah makes and I simply have to keep it forever.
I decided early on to keep one little decoration from their first nursery because each of my babies had their own nursery theme. So Jack has little safari animal figurines that my grandmother gifted him when he was born (she’s since passed now, so they are extra sentimental to me), Noah has a rocket ship stackable toy that went with his space themed room, and Alice will have a beautiful collectible frame print of a vintage Alice in Wonderland poster (it’s not in there right now because it’s still in her nursery).
Each of them also have a handmade, custom embroidery of their 20 week ultrasound and their name from a local artist in St. Louis and they’re truly some of my post prized possessions. In addition – I have an identical Frame for each of them that has a newborn photo, ultrasound photo and hospital bracelet. These are all things that are so special to me as their mom.
I decided to save their outfits they wore home from the hospital and also put them in their bins. In Allie’s bin, I also saved a preemie diaper because I just sometimes look at it and remember just HOW small she really was when we brought her home and I’m in awe of the face that she was ever that little. I also have first footprints, first hat from the hospital and each of their first locks of hair from their first haircuts.
As my kids grow – I will also add their lovies (they each are attached to one), and the handmade blankets that people made for them when they were born. Since they use all of those things right now, I don’t have them in the bins yet.
I hope this helps you decide what to put in your bins – and how to keep them organized as you continue to add to them over the years.
