Happy #fashionwednesday!! It’s officially real life fall (meaning it’s no longer 80 degrees and humid) and I have been DYING to break out my fall scarves. They are my favorite accessory and so perfect for when it gets chilly. ZARA started this trend back in 2013, and since then so many retailers have jumped on the band wagon and kept these babies stock each and every fall. So why on earth do YOU need one? So….what IS a blanket scarf?

A blanket scarf is an oversized, square shaped scarf that wraps around your neck and pretty much swallows you whole. It’s typically a plaid pattern and made with wool or soft cotton. I love love love them. I actually counted and i have almost TEN of them. Whoops #sorrynotsorry

How can you wear a blanket scarf?

There are about a million ways to wear a blanket scarf. I personally like to wear it in the classic style.

  1. Tye it into a triangle
  2. Wrap it once around your neck
  3. Tye the ends into a knot underneath the scarf so you can’t see them.

It makes it into little triangle shape, starting out wide at your neck and then tapering down. This is the most popular way to wear a blanket scarf, and is showcased in this blog post.

How to pair this style: This is best worn with plain sweaters, chambray tops and plain long tees.

Another way to wear this fabulous blanket scarf is the loop! Here are the steps:

  1. Fold the blanket in half to make a long rectangle
  2. Wrap the rectangle around your neck
  3. Pull the loose ends through the loop of the scarf

It bunches up really nicely around the neck and leaves the bottom loose ends out. It’s adorable, and makes a nice change of pace from the classic way!

How to pair this style: Style with a leather or jean jacket or even a cardigan because it doesn’t cover up the entire jacket style, just the very front.

The third way to wear a blanket scarf is the Poncho style. It’s great if you don’t really want to wear a “scarf” but are looking more for a shawl.

  1. Unfold scarf to it’s full size
  2. Tie the two corners of the scarf together to make arm holes
  3. Slide your arms in the holes and let the fabric drape

This one is SO easy. Just tie the ends and you’ve made a little poncho/vest situation. This one is perfect for outdoor events when it gets chilly and you need to wrap something around your shoulders.
