Hello beautiful friends!! Today is #FASHIONWEDNESDAY! And yesterday was the FIRST DAY OF SPRING! YAYYYYY. I am so excited that it is o f f i c i a l l y spring. I adore spring — and I basically have already been acting like it’s spring since February first so hey, I’m ahead of the game. This week I am bringing you my two ways to style a maxi dress for spring because 1. maxis are the BOMB for those of us who try to keep the #modestishottest trend going and 2. learning how to wear an outfit in more than one way is KEY to dressing up your closet. It isn’t always easy coming up with new outfits for the same piece so hopefully this gives you a little bit of springtime inspiration. Let’s jump into this!
Two Ways To Style A Maxi Dress For Spring
Outfit Numero Uno: Casual Chic.
I love love love this look!! I paired it with a cute little floppy hat because I don’t like sunburn and also it is currently one of my favorite pieces in my closet (come on — wouldn’t it be in yours, too?)
I styled this look with sweet LC by Lauren Conrad sandals (they were on super sale and I got them for $10 HOLLA), to keep it low key and casual. I added a fun watch and floppy hat and kept the rest of my jewelry minimal. The chambray top was a perfect edition to keep it as casual as possible!
I would wear this outfit to brunch with my mom, out for pedicures, or bumming around downtown St. Louis during the day. It is light, perfect for the hot days in the spring and summer (Monday was literally 88 degrees LOL).

Outfit Numero Dos: Classy Chic.
I think this dress is CHIC, obviously. So I dress this up a little bit more with a set of pearls — literally one of my favorite jewelry items. I got them for Christmas a few years ago and literally think of every excuse under the sun to wear them. I lost the chambray top to showcase the sight v neck detailing.
For the shoes, I tossed on a pair of nude strappy sandals with a tall heel. I love love love these shoes, and they are RIDICULOUSLY comfortable. Nude sandals always look really classy to me so I try to wear them anytime I have to go out somewhere.
This outfit would be perfect for a date night out with my hubby, to see a play or other theater production or out to a fancy dinner with friends and family. Black works for everything!

This dress is SO much fun to style. There are a TON of other ways you can do it, too! You could pair with gold gladiator sandals and a gold belt to give a greek goddess vibe or match it with a white jean jacket and hot pink pumps to run the show. The possibilities are ENDLESS with a simple black maxi like this.
Let me know in the comments below how YOU would style it. I can’t wait to hear your brilliant ideas!
Until Friday,
I love the way you styled both of these looks. The casual chic look is right up my alley. Love the hat!
Gorgeous! I love the looks and they are perfect for spring!

I would love to see your looks!
I really like the tied shirt with the black dress. I’m not a fan of the maxi dress but this looks really nice.
I really like the classy chic way to wear a maxi, but both styles work so well for spring.
Those are some very cute ideas to dress up or dress down a maxi dress
I love your blog. Great post.
I totally agree the color black and maxi style dresses should be worn year-round! XO Rach | rkcsouthern.com
I love dresses like this that can go from casual to fancy with just a few swaps. Plus maxi dresses are seriously my favorite thing to wear. So easy!
Love the 2 different looks! I would probably wear the casual more often but love them both!

I definitely prefer the more casual look….and this makes me so excited for spring!!! xoxo
Love both of these looks!! Maxi dresses are so easy to style! I live in them during Spring/Summer (sometimes Winter too).
I loved a good tied-up shirt over a long dress or maxi skirt – so cute!
That’s lovely! I could just live in maxis!
I love how you wore the button up over the dress to make it look like a skirt! I love wearing pieces like that!
Both looks are stunning on you, you did a great job!
Love how you styled this dressy and casual! The denim top looks great too!

Looks fabulous! I love that #modestishottest – I’d never heard it until then! I try to dress modest when ever I go to work (as I relief teach in a school) and my husband is always teasing me for my modest choice in clothing – I’m going to have to tell him it’s a “thing”. Thanks for making my day 😉
I love it paired with the denim. Good job!
I’m obsessed with maxi dresses! Love how you paired this one with a demin jacket. Makes it look super casual and comfy
love how you styled the first look with the denim and hat!

Love this! I basically live in maxis (because I forget to shave haha) and usually style it with a sweater or something, but i love the chambray shirt!
I would pick both styles! It also shows you how versatile maxi dresses are, especially a black one like yours.
