Happy #BEAUTYMONDAY! Today, I’m going to talk about how my makeup routine has changed since becoming pregnant. There are QUITE a few things nobody tells you about your changing skin when you get pregnant, and I’ve had to adjust my routine accordingly. For example: everyone says “you are going to GLOW in your second trimester” but I am definitely NOT glowing and I have honestly never had worse skin in my entire life. BUT aside from that – there are a few other things that have switched up that make getting ready in the morning a breeze (especially when you are battling morning sickness and/or did not actually sleep the night before). Let’s jump into it.

An eye de-puffer gel

This has been a LIFESAVER because as it turns out – you don’t actually get any sleep when your pregnant (foreshadowing for the future I assume?!?!?). Between general insomnia, to aching legs and back, to constantly getting up to pee, I’m up 2-4 times a time at a minimum and sometimes more. So my eyes have permanent bags underneath them now. #sigh. Luckily, I’ve found eye gels that actually help to de-puff and reduce dark circles around the eyes. These Peter Thomas Roth cucumber eye gels are sometimes the only reason I look like I got 8 hours of sleep the night before even if I only got 2.

A good BB cream + concealer

I have pretty much stopped wearing heavy foundation while pregnant because my skin is just … weird now. All my usual go-to’s are breaking up on my face, and none of it looks natural over my abundance of acne. So, I ditched it. Now, I use a tried and true full coverage concealer on my acne spots and the rest of my face gets a light BB cream. It makes it easier to look naturally pretty without overloading my face with product.

A light illuminating powder

This is important because you need to be able to fake that glow if you don’t have it already. 😉 If you are anything like me – you never got the glow (#rude) and you got blotchy skin and acne instead. SO I have to pretend I have had it all along. An illuminating powder will lightly set your makeup without making you look cake-y and will give you that glow from within kind of look.

An illuminating blush

If you are reading this blog post, you probably aren’t super into contouring your face (especially if you are on a time crunch and just don’t feel great). I get it. Most days I don’t either. That’s where a good illuminating blush comes in. It’s up there with giving you that preggo glow you need. It adds some flushed color to your cheeks (the I-swear-it’s-just-the-increased-blood-flow!!!!!) so you look alive and kicking even if you feel like death. The dream.

A neutral eyeshadow palette

This is great because even just a tiny bit of shimmery nude eyeshadow can make SUCH a difference in how put together you look. It helps you look + feel like you are ROCKING this whole pregnancy thing. I love adding a tiny bit of brown eyeshadow to my crease, and then topping it with a nude shimmer all over my lid. It’s two steps and looks natural and beautiful.

A lengthening + volumizing mascara

I’m guessing throwing on false lashes just isn’t happening right now. And that’s cool. So that means you need a REALLY good mascara to life your lashes to new heights and make you look more awake. I love the combo of my TooFaced Better Than Sex mascara and my IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara. You get length AND volume and if you add a little bit of curl to your lashes with an eyelash curler, they will help brighten your entire face up. Plus it’s a quite easy step that takes a few seconds to do.

A tinted lip balm

Forget liquid lipstick. You don’t have time for that. I get it. Find a tinted lipstick or lip balm that will face nicely. My top choice? Physicians Formula Butter Lip Cream. It’s a soft, creamy formula that comes in a bunch of colors and fades beautifully (so we can all stop worrying about butthole lips). Just reapply like chapstick when you need to throughout the day and move along. 10/10.
