It’s Thanksgiving week! Woo-Hoo! That means a 4 day weekend for the hubs and I. 🙂 I am so excited. We are planning on visiting our sweet friends since we can’t go home to see our families this year. It will be nice to be able to have a low-key holiday! I hope you have amazing plans and remember what you are thankful for this season. I know that I am grateful for my sweet husband, darling kitty cat and our wonderful families. To prepare you for this coming holiday, I have swatched one of my new favorite palettes for you and put together my thanksgiving MUST HAVES to take your makeup from boring to drool-worthy.

Thanksgiving Makeup Must Haves

Up In Smoke Palette:

This palette is from the company Melaleuca (my husband works for them). I have been wondering if their makeup was any good namely since we get some products for free — perks of A’s job. So, when Adam brought home the holiday palette, I just knew I needed to test it out for you guys!

First off — I highly doubted their ability to stand up against my favorite brands but I tried to go in with an opened mind. The colors are swatched below:

So, I don’t think the pigment is QUITE as good as Urban Decay or Tarte, but it is actually not bad at all. In terms of blendability, it gets an A. I was really impressed. I like these colors because they have two sides of a spectrum here which is PERFECT for the holiday season. The top side is reddish-brown with slight gold shimmer and the bottom side is grey and black with slight silver shimmer. I imagine some killer smokey eyes being created here. You can add my favorite Urban Decay Heavy Metal eyeliners in gold or silver to complete a stunning look.

THANKSGIVING MUST HAVES

For thanksgiving, I recommend using the top shadows and doing a combination of reds/browns with a sick gold liner. Here is an example of a finished look using this palette:

To finish the look off, don’t forget to add Eyelure false lashes and NYX Liquid Suede Lippie in Brooklyn Thorn. 🙂 This is super neutral but don’t forget that you can totally glam it up (and I HIGHLY recommend doing so 😉 )

I hope you learned something new today and that you find the perfect inspiration for your holiday look! 🙂

I would LOVE to hear about your thanksgiving plans! Drop them in the comments below and let me know what you FAVORITE thing about thanksgiving is. I know I’m pretty excited for the food, the laughter and counting my many, many blessings.

PS here is another example of the kind of thanksgiving look you can try out on Thursday:

THANKSGIVING MUST HAVES

I only have two eyes so I painted it out on my hand for you to see! Super simple: light all over on the lid, red-brown in the crease, bold winged liner and gold liquid liner to finish the look 🙂 This is what I will be rocking!!!

Also — if you have any killer thanksgiving recipes…drop those in the comments as well. 😉 I am sure my husband would love if I learned to cook one day. hah SOS

  1. Wow, all I can say is: GORGEOUS!! You are a true artist! I love the picture of the eye makeup on your hand too, so pretty.
I am not very good at makeup to say the least! I was a Theatre major in college, and so I can do stage makeup, but I have never really practiced every day makeup. Sigh. There have been occasions when I would really have liked to have those skills down pat! I will teach you how to cook, if you will teach me how to do makeup. Deal? Deal.

  2. Those colors are so pretty! I love playing with makeup and different eye shadow pallets. I love the way you drew it out! SO cool and your winged liner looks amazing.

  3. The shades in that palette are beautiful. I really need to get my hands on the glitter liners from UD. I have one from BH Cosmetics but I’m not a huge fan of it.

  4. Great look! I am impressed with how those colors blended! I am all about a good brown and gold smokey eye these days so I will definitely be using your tips. I adore the gold liner! Although, I personally think you should have done two different looks for your eyes, or grown a third one instead of drawing it on your hand. Jk (obviously). I need eyelashes like the ones on your hand, though! They show mine up. 😛 I hope you have a fabulous Thanksgiving, love! Congrats on 10K Instagram followers!

  5. What?! That drawing is amazing! I don’t blend that well on my eyes, much less on my hand. lol Love all the ideas, thanks so much for sharing your finds. And happy Thanksgiving (a wee bit early).

  6. I love how you put that eye on your hand, it actually made it so much easier to see and maybe replicate! I love this look!

  7. Loving this eye palette and am all about these rich brown colors! You look gorgeous using them! And never heard of this company – but jealous you get these for free since your hubs works there! What a pretty perk!

  8. I’m a loyal urban decay user but this gives me hope that there are other great brands out there! I love the natural but elegant look you have going on. Would love to try this combo out.

  9. The colors in the palette are just gorgeous. I really love the eye on your hand. the liquid gold liner really makes the look pop.
