It’s Thanksgiving week! Woo-Hoo! That means a 4 day weekend for the hubs and I. 🙂 I am so excited. We are planning on visiting our sweet friends since we can’t go home to see our families this year. It will be nice to be able to have a low-key holiday! I hope you have amazing plans and remember what you are thankful for this season. I know that I am grateful for my sweet husband, darling kitty cat and our wonderful families. To prepare you for this coming holiday, I have swatched one of my new favorite palettes for you and put together my thanksgiving MUST HAVES to take your makeup from boring to drool-worthy.
Thanksgiving Makeup Must Haves
Up In Smoke Palette:
This palette is from the company Melaleuca (my husband works for them). I have been wondering if their makeup was any good namely since we get some products for free — perks of A’s job. So, when Adam brought home the holiday palette, I just knew I needed to test it out for you guys!
First off — I highly doubted their ability to stand up against my favorite brands but I tried to go in with an opened mind. The colors are swatched below:
So, I don’t think the pigment is QUITE as good as Urban Decay or Tarte, but it is actually not bad at all. In terms of blendability, it gets an A. I was really impressed. I like these colors because they have two sides of a spectrum here which is PERFECT for the holiday season. The top side is reddish-brown with slight gold shimmer and the bottom side is grey and black with slight silver shimmer. I imagine some killer smokey eyes being created here. You can add my favorite Urban Decay Heavy Metal eyeliners in gold or silver to complete a stunning look.
For thanksgiving, I recommend using the top shadows and doing a combination of reds/browns with a sick gold liner. Here is an example of a finished look using this palette:
To finish the look off, don’t forget to add Eyelure false lashes and NYX Liquid Suede Lippie in Brooklyn Thorn. 🙂 This is super neutral but don’t forget that you can totally glam it up (and I HIGHLY recommend doing so 😉 )
I hope you learned something new today and that you find the perfect inspiration for your holiday look! 🙂
I would LOVE to hear about your thanksgiving plans! Drop them in the comments below and let me know what you FAVORITE thing about thanksgiving is. I know I’m pretty excited for the food, the laughter and counting my many, many blessings.
PS here is another example of the kind of thanksgiving look you can try out on Thursday:
I only have two eyes so I painted it out on my hand for you to see! Super simple: light all over on the lid, red-brown in the crease, bold winged liner and gold liquid liner to finish the look 🙂 This is what I will be rocking!!!
Also — if you have any killer thanksgiving recipes…drop those in the comments as well. 😉 I am sure my husband would love if I learned to cook one day. hah SOS
Thanks for stopping by and if I haven’t said it before, thank YOU so much for being a Blonde & Ambitious follower. Together, we reached over 10K instagram followers this past week (*insert squeal here*). If you aren’t already following me on Instagram — check out the social icon at the top of the page to hop on over. You will NOT be sorry.
Stay pretty, Blondies!
Love your HANDiwork, girlfriend. (SEE WHAT I DID THERE?!?!) And love when palettes are pleasant surprises!
Coming Up Roses
hahah I just laughed out loud 😉 Puns are my favorite form on humor. LOL. And me too! And you can never have too many shadows.
Beautiful. One of the things that I miss the most living abroad is not having a Sephora. But I guess that it’s better on my wallet that way!
Wow, all I can say is: GORGEOUS!! You are a true artist! I love the picture of the eye makeup on your hand too, so pretty.
I am not very good at makeup to say the least! I was a Theatre major in college, and so I can do stage makeup, but I have never really practiced every day makeup. Sigh. There have been occasions when I would really have liked to have those skills down pat! I will teach you how to cook, if you will teach me how to do makeup. Deal? Deal.
Bethany — uh YES PLEASE. At some point, my husband wants to stop eating frozen meals and I would stop burning down our kitchen every time I try to cook! LOL. 😉
Gorgeous! Your eyeshadow looks incredible!

The company Melaleuca sells it 🙂
I love how you painted it on your hand! What a cool way to showcase the look. The gold liner is a nice festive touch — it’s just the right amount of sparkle.
I think so too. I LOVE sparkle liner.
Those colors are so pretty! I love playing with makeup and different eye shadow pallets. I love the way you drew it out! SO cool and your winged liner looks amazing.
Xoxo Amber
Thank you SO much Amber!
Your hand work is amazing! The palette is gorgeous too!
One Awesome Momma
The shades in that palette are beautiful. I really need to get my hands on the glitter liners from UD. I have one from BH Cosmetics but I’m not a huge fan of it.
UD kills it in terms of the glitter liner!
The shadows look amazing!
Very pretty! Great colors!
Omgsh I love it!!! I wish I could draw on my hand like that! I can do makeup on faces but that is about it! You are so talented!! I love this look and you are stunning!! Totally need to check out that palette too!!
Love,
Elisabeth (http://www.everythingandnothin.com/)
Thanks so much girl! 🙂 You are too sweet!
The shadows don’t seem super pigmented, but wow! What beautiful results! I love how your makeup came out.

They definitely were lacking in some pigment. I wouldn’t put them on the same caliber as UD or Tarte.
You blow my mind with your winged eye-liner! You are the only one who has ever actually SHOWN me how to do it and I have always been awful at it!
SO GLAD it is helpful!!! Once you get the hang of it, you can do it every time. 🙂
Taylor, I love these shades!!! They are the colors I lean to! Def must haves!! XO
That’s such pretty look for thanksgiving! Hope you have the best time 🙂 x
Omg this is awesome!!! Thanks for sharing.
I love this look! I am a big fan of gold in eye makeup! I am going to have to check out this palette.
Can I just say that I love that you painted your eye makeup on your hand! That’s such a fab way to really show us how to do the look. I love it!
I am so glad!! It is so fun!
Those swatches look so pretty! I love how you’ve used these colours on your eyes! So chic and fun for the holiday party season!

Love that stuff it is the BEST.
This eye shadow looks so pretty! I wish you could just do my makeup for me! Lol… great share thanks!
LOL! I would love to!!
Great look! I am impressed with how those colors blended! I am all about a good brown and gold smokey eye these days so I will definitely be using your tips. I adore the gold liner! Although, I personally think you should have done two different looks for your eyes, or grown a third one instead of drawing it on your hand. Jk (obviously). I need eyelashes like the ones on your hand, though! They show mine up. 😛 I hope you have a fabulous Thanksgiving, love! Congrats on 10K Instagram followers!
You are so CUTE! Thank you so much! 🙂 And yes…if only I had more eyes!
I love love that you painted one on your hand! It turned out lovely! I honestly hadn’t even thought about thanksgiving makeup, but now I want to go out palette shopping!
I thought I was the only one who tested out makeup looks on their hand lol- beautiful look! 🙂
Those are beautiful and I have some of the make up already. I cannot make that eyeliner work for me. I think I am too old, or my eyes don’t want me to look sophisticated.
LOL! Terri you could pull off anything you wanted!! 🙂
That took some talent to draw that eyelid on the back of your hand. I love the more earthy tones when it comes to eye shadow. I think it suits me better.
I love how your hand makeup looks better than my eyes on a normal day! Lol so talented!! 🙂
What?! That drawing is amazing! I don’t blend that well on my eyes, much less on my hand. lol Love all the ideas, thanks so much for sharing your finds. And happy Thanksgiving (a wee bit early).

Wow your makeup is on point, do you have a Youtube channel? i love the look of the liner it creates such fantastic flicks.
I do. 🙂 My channel name is my name — Taylor Mobley. 🙂
Wow, you made such a beautiful drawing on your hand! It looks so realistic. Thanks for the fun Thanksgiving makeup inspiration.
Love this makeup look! It’s not too much but it has some fun sparkle to it!
I love the color palette and very cleaver with the eye on your hand. That made me chuckle. Thanks for sharing.
I love how you put that eye on your hand, it actually made it so much easier to see and maybe replicate! I love this look!

Wow, what a beautiful smoky eye. And I love that eye you did on your hand.
These are such pretty colors and totally my pallet! I love them and they look great on you.
These are all such beautiful makeup choices, especially for the holidays. Thanks for the share, sweet girl 🙂
Loving this eye palette and am all about these rich brown colors! You look gorgeous using them! And never heard of this company – but jealous you get these for free since your hubs works there! What a pretty perk!
Taylor you’re so good at this. I don’t use make-up but I love how certain occasions and seasons will bring different make up. It’s super fitting.
I’m a loyal urban decay user but this gives me hope that there are other great brands out there! I love the natural but elegant look you have going on. Would love to try this combo out.
Omg just loving that pallet!!!!! All the colors are so vibrant and beautiful.
Ps ~ that eye omg love it!!!
LOL! Thanks Courtney!!!
I love these neutral swatches for Thanksgiving. I love them and this is my first time learning about the Melaleuca palette.
These color swatches are amazing! Neutral with a kick 🙂
Wow! Showing eye makeup on your hand is very unique. Looks very nice. I do have a palette from Maybelline which has most of these shades. Thanks for sharing.

Omg! Love your make up must faves! I want it all. Especially love your smoky eyes! Those eye liners are super fun too! Lovely picks!
Your look is so pretty!! I didn’t know they made that pretty sparkly eyeliner, but I definitely need it now! Sparkles are my favorite for any and all holidays 🙂
Lovely! Eyeshadow is one of the things that I’m always looking to save money on and good blendability is key! You did an awesome job!
That liner is amazing and I can’t believe you made that on your hand! That’s so impressive!
I love the sparkly liners for the holidays. I’m hoping to wear some fabulous makeup today so you have really inspired my Thanksgiving look.
I have actually NEVER heard of Melaleuca before so I am going to have to check it out. I am kind of obsessed with that liner.
The colors in the palette are just gorgeous. I really love the eye on your hand. the liquid gold liner really makes the look pop.
