I am the world’s biggest fan of comfortability and floppy summer hats. I don’t like to wear things that I can’t sit in without a zipper digging into my lower back or anything in which I cannot lean over without flashing the entire city I live in. That being said. This summer an amazing trend came into style, and I, for one, am not disappointed in the least. T-shirt dresses and floppy hats. You see them everywhere….at the pool, on the beach, out for a stroll in the park… They literally work for all situations. Today I’m going to show you the outfit I have on repeat this summer. Let’s do this.

As always….a huge thank you to Michelle from michelleandlogan.com for taking all the pictures for my blog. Visit her site to learn about how you can book her for your next event!

How To Style A T-Shirt Dress & Floppy Hat Without Looking Like A Hot Mess.

STEP ONE: Choose the right dress.

I love this dress because the fabric is so incredibly soft. I mean, it barely even feels like I have anything on (living the dream, right?). It is comfortable to sit in, long enough that I feel comfortable and I can lean over confidently. Three solid wins right there. I chose this charcoal grey color because it flatters my skin tone really well. I can wear a variety of lip / shoe colors with it and it will transition beautifully into the fall. STEP TWO: Choose the right hat.

Guys. I am not lying to you when I say I searched high and low for the perfect floppy hat. I had to have tried on dozens of hats before I found this one. They either didn’t have enough flop, or there was too much flop, or it wasn’t the right color…but eventually Wet Seal came through for me. This beauty has the best flop, the best color and it was only $10. It was like fate. I still get chills thinking about it…

STEP THREE: Choose the right accessories.

Anyone who tells you the shade of your lipstick doesn’t matter is someone you do not need in your life. I spent a good 30 minutes holding my Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipsticks up to this dress/hat combo before settling on Fuchsia. I’m a sucker for a good hot pink lipstick. I bought this one for my honeymoon and to this day has been one of my best purchases to date. Next, choose your jewelry. I chose to go the lighter route on jewelry for this outfit. I toyed with statement necklaces but in the end, I decided that my gold bar necklace was the way to go (gifted to me by the one and only Michelle Peterson…I’m telling you, this girl is the bomb. Have you booked her for a photography session yet?). I chose some simple gold hoops with sparkly rhinestones and let my wedding ring do the talking for itself on my hands. Last, shoes. I have showcased these shoes before. But how could I not? Target…you just really get me. I love these strappy nude angels from above.

STEP FOUR: Own that outfit like you were born to wear it.

Regardless of what anyone says: you can rock whatever you put on your body. If you feel confident, everyone around you will fall in line. Forget about what other people think and wear what makes you happy. A teacher I once had in college said, “you call too much attention to yourself with your clothing. It isn’t becoming for a lady to dress that loudly”. Since then, I’ve worn every bright pink, purple and orange lipstick I can get my hands on…put on the loudest, brightest tops and dresses I can and walk like I’ve got my own personal entourage right behind me. Whether the voices telling you that you can’t wear something are from friends, family, strangers or even your own, drown them out with how fabulous you are.
