Happy Tuesday! This post is for my working makeup artists! I know it can be so daunting to start your kid – so I’ve put together my top 5 must-have eyeshadow palettes for you. Only one of them is on the pricier side, with the rest of them being drugstore pricing. I chose these specifically thinking of my girls who are just now starting their MUA collections and looking for makeup that will fill their kit and is reliable to use on clients. These are all larger shadow palettes with a wide range of color and tone so that you have plenty for every shade of skin tone. Let’s dive into this.
Must-Have Eyeshadow Palettes For Working Makeup Artists
BH Cosmetics Ultimate Neutrals Palette
This is my ultimate palette. I use this almost exclusively for my brides. It’s every single color I could ever need when it comes to glam neutral looks. There are such awesome shimmers (like SO SHINY) and perfect matte transition shades. It works for almost every single skin tone I’ve come across as a working MUA. It can be a little bit bulky, but it’s honestly worth it having so many neutral eyeshadow colors.
Morphe Jaclyn Hill Original Palette
I talked about this palette in my holy grail makeup look video – but it’s true. It is a really good one. I don’t love Morphe, but it IS affordable and has a ton of colors. You get some brights, some warm tones, some cool tones. You get a wide spectrum and great shimmers. I trust the quality, I know it will work for a large rang of skin tones and it’s super lightweight so it doesn’t weigh down my kit.
Lorac Los Angeles Mega Pro 4 Palette
This is a great palette for pastel shades. They are softer and a little bit more pigmented. This palette works really well for soft and romantic eye looks, plus it has some fun pastel colors my other palettes don’t offer pretty lavenders or light blues and greens. SO, if your client is looking for colors like that or it fills a need in your kit, this is a great one.
BH Cosmetics Take Me Back To Brazil Palette
This is my favorite brights palette. It’s a great neon and bright color palette. This probably won’t be your most used palette (especially if you are primarily a makeup artist) but I also think it’s important to have a wide range of colors just in case you do a styled shoot or something fun so you can have something to pull from. PLUS, it’s so inexpensive that it takes almost nothing to buy it and pop it into your kit.
Morphe Jaclyn Hill Vault Palettes (Armed & Gorgeous, Dark Magic, Bling Boss, Ring The Alarm)
These palettes are great to keep in your kit. They aren’t crazy expensive, and they have a wide range of colors you don’t get in the other palettes. Like deep greens, deep purples, deep blues. You may be surprised at the looks you have clients bring in for certain occasions and I’ve pulled these out of my system more than once to use on a client. I love when it’s fall and everyone is wanting burnt orange and yellow smoked out looks, especially. They are really nice to have on hand should you need them!

I hope that this list was super helpful for those of you who are hoping to break into becoming a MUA, and those of you who are wanting to maybe bulk up your kit a little bit without breaking the bank. It can be so intimidating to start filling your kit – but hopefully this gives you a good place to start and pick from!
