Happy FRI-YAY! I wanted to share a little bit about how you could spend Memorial Day this year – on a PICNIC! Adam and I LOVe taking the pup out for the afternoon and just spend time together this year, so this is such a wonderful way to reconnect with your family or significant other. It’s also the last long weekend Adam has before the baby’s arrival (besides our trip to LA this next week) – so we want to make sure that we are soaking up every little bit of this weekend that we have! Check out how you can plan the perfect picnic below:

How To Plan The PERFECT Memorial Day Picnic

List of items to pack (because lord knows I forget all things and we aren’t going to a restaurant here):

  1.  Lunch meat sandwiches (made to your taste) OR a yummy peanut butter and jelly. Since I’m pregnant obviously, I can’t have deli meat unless it’s hot – so I would opt for a PB&J!
  2. Fruit salad
  3. Veggie bowl (it would be a veggie tray…but the tray is hard to transport in our bag)
  4. Your favorite chips (we are big fans of Cheetos and veggie straws)
  5. Assortest drinks like sodas or lemonade, and water bottles for us AND the dog.
  6. Chocolate cookies for dessert
  7. Paper products: plates, cups, napkins, straws
  8. Silverware: forks, knives, spoons
  9. Picnic blanket + basket. Ours kind of comes in one!

Fun activities to do together:

  1.  Cornhole (if you’ve got one handy!! This is one of our favorite games and we can stick it in the back of the car).
  2. 20 questions. I love this one because even though Adam and I have been together for 4 and a half years, there are STILL things we love to talk and discuss and learn about each other.
  3. Take the dog for a long stroll. You want him to be worn out by the time you sit down to eat or else you’ll be sharing your sandwich with Archer. 😉
  4. Rent bikes (even better: a tandem bike) and enjoy the nice afternoon exploring and finding the PERFECT picnic spot
  5. Board game! There is plenty of room on a picnic blanket to enjoy your favorite board game together.

I’ve always been a sucker for a good picnic. I think they’re so cute and it’s a nice opportunity to really get some awesome quality time in with your loved one. AND this doesn’t just have to be a picnic for two – picnics are great for those of you with little ones, too! There are COUNTLESS portable yard games to set up, tons of fun snacks to bring, and lots of opportunity for your offspring to get a ton of energy out all at once. 😉

If it were up to me – I’d spend all my weekends on a boat on a lake soaking up the sun, but sometimes you work with what you got. And right now, I’m don’t have a boat or a lake. SO picnics it is!

I think picnic dates are underappreciated in this day when everyone wants to be bombarded with a million different things going on. Sometimes it’s nice to have a long weekend where it’s a little more low-key and a little less busy. OR maybe it’s just me wanting to get this last bit of peace and quiet in before I become mama to a busy little boy. LOL.

  4. Excellent tips! I live in Washington, DC and it was a bit too humid and hot for a picnic in the park but we’re planning a mini picnic by the pool!
