Happy #fashionwednesday, fam! Now that the cat is out of the bag – I can finally talk about some pregnancy-related stuff. For fashion Wednesday today, I want to talk about what I’ve been wearing through the first trimester. One of the things that surprised me the MOST about pregnancy was how quickly I stopped fitting into my normal jeans. I’m not SHOWING all that much yet (just a little baby belly) but my overall waist and thighs have gotten thicker which means my regular pants are SO tight and uncomfortable. In light of that – my wardrobe has changed a little bit! Let’s talk about it.
First Trimester COMFORT & STYLE: What I Wore
Tops:
Anything FLOWY
This was (and is) a lifesaver for me. I haven’t be ready to broadcast to the world that I’m pregnant, and tight shirts were a little bit too revealing of my expanding waistline for my comfort level. I just looked like I put on a few pounds over the holidays so I wanted to make sure I was pretty hidden. I love boxy t-shirts, flowy peasant tops, loose light sweaters, etc. They felt less constricting, and way more flattering.
SHOP MY FAVORITES:
Chunky Sweaters (if it’s winter) or Ponchos!
I feel super glad that the first trimester happened in the winter (though we would have taken being pregnant anywhere, anytime) because my usual style was jeans and chunky sweaters and that was PERFECT. It hid my lil’ belly, and was warm and comfortable. I also liked that typically chunky sweaters are longer, which meant if I had to unbutton / unzip my pants, you can’t really tell. Thank the LORD.
SHOP MY FAVORITES:
Bottoms:
Belly bands!
These were suggested to be later in the first trimester game but they’re great! They hide the fact that your pants are unbuttoned and unzipped so you can wear them longer before giving up your pre-pregnancy pants completely. They are pretty inexpensive from Target, and come in lots of colors. I like the black one because it’s hidden for the most part but they have nude, white, cream, gray, etc.
SHOP MY FAVORITES:
Leggings
I have been LIVING in leggings. LIVING in them. They are stretchy, comfortable, and I can still wear all of the ones I already own. I love my fleece-lined leggings the best because they come up super high and holds everything in place. They are also super warm. I still wear my Zella leggings, but they are a tiny bit tight on my belly, so I’ve been rolling those down. Otherwise, if they have a good give to them, they’re golden.
SHOP MY FAVORITES:
Maternity Pants from GAP
I did finally give in and buy my first pair of maternity pants! They are my regular size (4) but they have a really great stretchy band at the top. They were on SUPER clearance so I think I only spent about $20 on them MAX. I wouldn’t buy any more until I start really growing belly-wise. I don’t want to waste money if I don’t have to!

PIN THIS FOR LATER:
I am glad that we are out of the first trimester and into the second now – but it is such a special time with you and your S/O. Adam and I really loved the excitement of being brand-new pregnant and the fun newness of it all but it is also a stressful time as well. I’m glad we are in the ‘safer’ zone of pregnancy now.
