Happy TUESDAY! Today, we are going to be chatting about the largest and most important (arguably) organ of the body: your skin. This is our barrier to the elements – everything from weather to air pollution to water. It gets it all and typically does a great job at keeping us safe. However, it’s kind of a game changer when the weather changes because our skin has to have time to adjust. With winter weather comes dry air, cold temperatures and decreased moisture. That all leads to a few things on our skin: 1. dry and cracked lips and hands. 2. less moisture in our nasal cavity (which can cause painful build up of mucus and bloody noses. 3. tightened pores and decreased natural oils. No bueno. While you may think #3 sounds fabulous (who doesn’t want smaller pores, amiright?) it actually can damage the overall appearance of your skin which can enhance fine lines and wrinkles and more painful breakouts. #booooo. SO. To combat the insane weather change we are about to have, I am going to talk about my current skincare routine that I’ve been switching to as the weather continually gets colder out here in the midwest. Let’s dive into this.

Fall-To-Winter Skincare Routine

I have two brands that I am really loving at the moment, that are really doing an amazing job keeping my skin from turning into a dry and crinkly prune: Tula and Peter Thomas Roth. I have put together a routine of the two of these products that really has helped my skin 1. recover from 100 days of makeup 2. recover from special effects halloween makeup and 3. prep for the coming winter months.

MORNING ROUTINE (daily):

Face Wash – Tula Facial Cleanser

This facial cleanser is absolutely amazing. It is gentle on my skin, and doesn’t make my skin feel “dry” after I am done like I have with a lot of other cleansers. I feel like it cleans my skin without stripping my skin of it’s natural oils. It’s a huge tube which is amazing, and you don’t need very much so it lasts a LONG time. I use it with my little mini luna so that it gets into all my pores and doesn’t scratch my skin like wash clothes do.

Toner – Tula Acne Clearing + Tone Correcting Gel

So, recently, Tula came out with this acne clearing toning gel and I am obsessed. I am literally so obsessed. This stuff is so easy on my skin but I feel like it truly does help minimize my acne and acne scaring. It helps keep my redness in check as well which is important for even makeup application as well.

Gel Cream – Tula Aqua Infusion Oil-Free Gel Cream

This is so amazing for hydration. This is gel cream, so it doesn’t leave an oily residue on my face. It feels cooling, and it almost feels like my skin is DRINKING up the cream. I put a very light layer all over my face after the first two steps to lock in hydration on my skin.

NIGHTTIME ROUTINE (daily):

Makeup Remover – Neutrogena Makeup Removing Wipes

These are my ride or die makeup removing wipes. I have at least three packs of these floating around my house at any given time. One in my makeup artist kit, one in my bathroom and one in my makeup room. I use it before bed every night to wipe off my makeup. It easily takes off my mascara without tugging at my eyes. It doesn’t work amazing on waterproof mascara – but if you are wear it often, I would recommend putting a little bit of coconut oil on your lashes for 3 minutes and then using makeup wipes.

Moisturizer – Tula Hydrating Day and Night Cream

This is a very heavy duty cream. They state it’s for day and night, but I really only use it at night because it’s a little bit too heavy for my skin during the day. During the cold and dry winter months, it really saves my skin around my mouth and around my eyes. Dry skin can really accentuate fine lines and wrinkles so I make sure to put a generous amount on at night to help revive my skin. I always wake up with my skin feeling soft and supple.

Acne Treatment – Peter Thomas Roth Acne Clear Invisible Dots

These. Are. The. Shiz. These are a life saver for me (when I’m not having a hormonal acne breakout). My hormonal acne is basically just a monster that can’t be reckoned with BUT during the times of the month when I have acne due to makeup wear or stress or not eating well, these take care of it so well. I put them on overnight and pull them off in the morning and the size of the acne and the redness on my face is visibly reduced.

WEEKLY ADDITIONS:

Hydrating Face Mask – Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask

This has SAVED my face. SAVED it. During the month of October, I do a TON of special effects makeup and from July 23rd – October 31st, I have my 100 days of makeup challenge. That means makeup is on my face EVERY SINGLE DAY. That is a lot for my skin. Especially the special effects – because I use latex for a lot of my looks and I’m actually allergic to the latex. I don’t keep it on my skin every time but I do tend to break out in hives for a few days after I wear it so my skin is just a mess. This hydrating mask has really helped to get my skin back where it needs to be after all of this.

Acne Face Mask – Peter Thomas Roth Therapeutic Sulfur Mask Acne Treatment Mask

This acne mask is what I use when I really need to help soothe my skin during an acne flareup. It helps during my hormonal breakouts and during regular break outs and it’s gentle without drying or burning my skin. I like to use it when I’m taking a bubble bath because I think it helps to also destress as well.

Under Eye Patches – Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox™ Hydra-Gel Eye Patches

Not only do I love these – but they are also husband approved! I love these gel patches because they are easy to pop on any time. I like to have them on for 20 min in the morning before a big event, while I’m reading before bed, or even just when I’m watching a movie with Adam. They are easy to pop on and they instantly refresh and revitalize your under eye area.

Fall-To-Winter Skincare Routine

It is so important that you take good care of your skin thorough-out the year – and keep in mind that different seasons call for different products. In the summer, I’m WAY more about brightening and toning face masks vs hydrating, and I definitely cool it with the serums because of how oily my skin gets when it’s hot and humid outside. But the winter is a different beast, so I definitely have to tackle my skincare differently. I care so much about my skin because I struggle with hormonal acne. It’s almost never clear – and when it is, it tends to be dry and flakey from different acne products. I am just trying to do my best to make sure it’s as healthy as possible when it comes to the things I CAN control.
