Happy #FASHIONWEDNESDAY, party people! I’ve been on the go for days it seems, and then all of a sudden it was time for a fashion post and I was coming up empty. So, this morning, I got up early, snagged my husband and his favorite buffalo plaid flannel (for me, of course!) and dragged him out in the -3 degree weather to take some pictures of me. He. Is. A. Saint, y’all. A – if you’re reading this, you the real MVP.

BUFFALO PLAID + A CONFIDENCE BOOST

Buffalo Plaid + A Confidence Boost

I’ve seen a lot of post on Facebook recently that are just awful. People are tearing others down like it’s their JOB. My goodness. So, in light of it being Christmastime, I thought I would share with you 6 ways to lift up the people in your life and spread a little Christmas cheer (all year round).

1. Applaud successes.

Maybe let’s stop focusing on how people look, but rather how they act. Be the champion of your loved ones. Even small victories deserve to be celebrated. And we all need an excuse to buy 24 sparkly gold balloons, right?

2. Be encouraging.

Think about what you say before you say it. Is it going to be constructive or kind? Sometimes, hard things need to be said. I get that. But there is always a tactful way to say it. Encouragement shows sincerity and belief in someone. We all need a little bit of that, amiright??

3. Forgive quickly.

BUFFALO PLAID + A CONFIDENCE BOOST

This one has exceptions, OBVIOUSLY. But for most things, man, life is hard isn’t it? Being a human is DANG hard and sometimes we need others around us to show a little forgiveness. I am working on this one because I can hold a mean grudge. My mantra for this month is to let. it. go.

4. Cut the gossip.

Gossip is a natural way of life for everyone. We all share stories we heard about others, scandalous moments around us, etc. But before you open your mouth to share someone else’s story, think about this: is it true? is it hurtful? will it benefit you in ANY way by sharing it?

5. Share knowledge.

Tell your friend where you got the boots she likes so much. Show the girl next door how to take the perfect photo. Show someone how to work their computer. There is enough room in this world for everyone. Hoarding knowledge because you want to be the only one in those particular shoes or the only one who can master the perfect selfie isn’t worth it. Make someone’s day.

6. Love those around you.

I struggle with this one. How can I love people I don’t even like?! But the thing is, everyone is struggling, even when they don’t look like they are. We’ve all got our battles. Just because you think your battle is bigger than someone else’s doesn’t make theirs any less of a fight. Try your best to be kind. Even when you are standing in line in Target and the woman in front of you WILL NOT stop talking to the cashier and they’re moving slower than two sloths. 😉

P.S. The best things in life come from your husband’s closet, don’t they? This buffalo plaid shirt was grudgingly passed down to me, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. This is the PERFECT plaid for this season. Shop the look below and make sure to snag these pieces while they’re on sale!

I love all of my readers. I think you are all wonderful. You encourage me EVERY DAY to be a better person. Thank you SO much. You have no idea how much I appreciate the sweet words you comment.

BUFFALO PLAID + A CONFIDENCE BOOST

Let’s all make the commitment this month to build people up. All people. Even if you don’t like them that much. Even if they were rude to you in the makeup aisle at Sephora. Even if they said you had big ears in first grade (you know who you are). Let’s make like Elsa and LET IT GO.

I hope you enjoyed this post and learned something new today. 🙂

  1. Such a cute outfit???? and great ideas! They always say successful people applaud the success of others so I think your #1 is the best. All of these ideas are great but that’s my favorite????

  2. Great tips, and I absolutely LOVE that plaid shirt! Would totally steal it from my husband’s closet, lol. Many of us in Canada call these shirts the “Canadian Tuxedo”. 😉

I struggle with #6 all the time. It’s inevitable that I would like everyone in life, but I do my best to be civil to everyone I meet without being “fake” about it either.

  3. Love love love your end message!! We should all just be kind to one another, it really isn’t that hard and it usually makes us feel good!

    Super cute outfit, btw!

  4. This is SUCH an important post! I think we need to start uplifting each other more often instead of constantly tearing other people down. I think I need to work on that myself. By the way, I absolutely love your outfit!

  5. Seriously love the look! I recently read ‘The Universe Has Your Back’ by Gabby Bernstein (READ it! So good!) and one of the mantras that she talks about is something along the lines of “I lead and live through love” and that has seriously changed my world! It’s a great reminder not to judge those who may seem annoying or whatever.

  6. Great reminders…and good mindful things to do now and going forward. Love building people up. And really interesting – I just had this major epiphany about being more mindful about all of this… so… the post is cosmic with my own vision!

  7. YES YES YES!! Love your post so much! We rise by lifting others up! And loving the buffalo plaid girl! You are working it! And it looks super cozy too! I want a plaid shirt like this now! Thanks for sharing!

  8. I have to tell you in addition to loving your outfit, I love your outlook as well. This post is so needed in today’s world. It really bums me out when I see so much ugliness. Thank you for taking the time to write something so uplifting.

  9. When people say hateful or unkind things, it hurts everyone! I always think that the person who won’t stop talking to the cashier is probably very lonely and the cashier is one person who she can talk to. It helps to stop me from getting irritated if I think of it from that perspective. You look great in that buffalo plaid shirt, but your kindness is even lovelier.

  10. I am obsessed with “the red and black lumberjack”! LOL I pair of Hunter boots have been on my wish list forever!

  11. I totally agree we need to be kinder. I have the philosophy that if I wouldn’t want it said to me why would I say it to someone else? I love your first one, applaud success. I think women are too often competitive and not encouraging of each others success enough. It’s hard but we need more of that in life. Such a great post!

  12. These are all great to remember! There definitely has been a lot of people putting each other down lately. It’s insane. You would think that with Christmastime being here, everyone would be a little nicer. I guess they are on Santa’s naughty list.

  13. All of these are great things to remember. I so agree with just hateful comments floating around Facebook, and Instagram. Around Christmas people usually are extra cheerful, and spreading kindness so hopefully this will stop.

But, on a lighter note, I absolutely love your buffalo plaid shirt! Last year I wasn’t a big fan of this print but now this year I absolutely love it. Plus the red is so festive!

  17. I like how you say that “The best things in life come from your husband’s closet” I do the same too. I’m not married yet but I am always wearing my fiance’s clothes mostly shirts. The plaid shirt is so cute and looks good on you. Also, like the fact that you wore a matching lipstick 🙂
