Hello, darlings! I just got home from a perfect weekend in Las Vegas with my honey. It was amazing and much needed. Sometimes you just need a getaway! BUT TO THE POINT HERE: A few weeks ago, I walked into Ulta intending to browse around (LOL) and left with my hands full and wallet empty. I really love this company and their range of products is incredible. For a drugstore brand, the quality and their price, let’s be real, is unbeatable. Let’s dive into this.

I chose a few items that every woman needs in her makeup arsenal. A mattifying setting powder, a gel eyeliner, and their infamous matte lip cream in a punchy pink. I also own their jumbo eye pencils in champagne and milk, as well as their liquid eye marker (featured above). ALSO FUN FACT: everything I have linked to that is the NYX brand in this post is UNDER $10. THAT’S RIGHT. LESS THAN $10. OK. COOL.

MATTE FINISHING POWDER:

This powder is the BOMB. So typically, during the winter months, I use a little bit heavier foundation because I am so pale. Lucky me. I have talked about my favorite powder foundation, Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation before. It’s incredible. But during the summer, I get a little bit more color on my face and I just don’t need that kind of coverage. I let my freckles shine through and embrace it. 

That is where NYX steps in. It is a sheer powder that has a slight color to it that sets my concealer and keeps me from looking like a shiny mess (in places other than my cheekbones, of course…hello highlighter!). It doesn’t really feel like a foundation. It simply keeps my face from looking over oily. And for my oily girls, we know how awful it is to have to carry blotting sheets with us literally everywhere. 

GEL LINER:

If you read my post from last Monday on how to use 15 different brushes (a must have for my beauty girls…read it here), then you remember my eyeliner brushes. Here is the eyeliner that you use them with. NYX makes super pigmented products, which is amazing because it means you don’t have to use as much product and saves you from a trip to Ulta every two weeks. This eyeliner is amazing. It goes on smoothly and is the darkest black eyeliner I have ever seen. It dries into a matte finish and doesn’t budge the rest of the day. Talk about a dream come true.

MATTE LIP CREAM:

I finally gave into all the hype and purchased my first soft matte lip cream. You hear about them ALL the time from makeup gurus and NYX fanatics alike. I have to say, it does NOT disappoint. This color is “Sydney” and it is so beautiful. This lippie color is baby pink with a dusty rose feel and dries to a complete matte but doesn’t make my lips crack. It is very pigmented, which meant I only had to put on one coat for it to cover my lips. I hate caking lipstick on so that was a huge win in my book.

SO there is that! I love this company. They sell SO many different types of makeup that it is impossible to NOT find something that you are going to LOVE. I plan on getting all my halloween makeup from this brand because the color pay off is incredible (just you guys wait for October…), and the price, like I’ve said before, just can’t be beat.

What is your favorite drug store brand? While I love my tried-and-true brands like Urban Decay, Anastasia Beverly Hills & TooFaced…sometimes it helps (my wallet and my marriage) to go more on the inexpensive side. Which brand should I review next?

  4. I’ve been wanting to try a gel eyeliner, but am still not convinced that I will be any good at it! Makeup is REALLY not a skill of mine. I will definitely check this one out though if I end up buying!

    1. Get an eyeliner brush with a bent handle. Using it is basically goof-proof. 🙂 It is a LIFESAVER when using gel liner! Plus, you’ll be making perfect wings in no time. 🙂

  16. I first fell in love with NYX when I purchased one of their soft mattes. It quickly became my go to lip color! I’ve been dying to try out more NYX ever since. I’ll have to check them out now, for sure!

  17. I LOVE NYX! I always buy stuff from them when Ulta has the bogo sale! I keep going back and forth over the gel liner, but you convinced me to give it a try! I really love the NYX butter gloss, their eyeshadow sticks for primer and their eyebrow pencils!
