Happy #FASHIONWEDNESDAY! I have to go to the dentist today so if you don’t from me again, blame the doctor. I haaaate the dentist. I actually get anxiety when I think about having to go or sitting in the chair. A dental office has been the place of many nightmares. LOL (except not actually joking). ANYWHO. This week’s post is all about how to rock the ever trendy flare leg jeans! I am a huuuuuge fan of skinny jeans (as in of the 20 pairs of jeans I own, like 18 of them are skinny jeans). HOWEVER I want to try to break out of that and branch out into other types of jeans because I don’t discriminate and they can look so dang cute when styled well. Ok. Let’s  jump into this!

So, to start off with. These are from A.E. I bought them during one of their clearance sales for like $15. aka the best clearance purchase I ever bought. This outfit has a distinctly 70s vibe. I know you are tired of seeing my floppy hat. I’M SORRY BUT NOT SORRY. I love it so I’m going to wear it forever. One day I’ll get another hat and wear that one for 12 years, too. I don’t buy anything unless I can wear it with everything I own anyways (hello, versatility)!

STEP ONE: Choose your jeans.

The key to finding the perfect flare leg to go big or go home. None of that boot cut situation. If you are going to jump into this trend, actually go for it. Boot cut jeans will look unintentional if flare leg is what you are going for.

I chose a medium wash so I could wear it into fall as well, but if you want something with a summery vibe, a light distressed wash would be GORGEOUS.

STEP TWO: Choose your top.

This floral top is one that I’ve for literally ever (see how I styled it with overalls HERE). It is a tight little v neck that is super soft and flattering on my figure. I love love love it. The key to choosing the right top is making sure it is fitted. You want to balance your look out, so avoid wearing baggy tops with these pants to make sure you look slender and sophisticated. If you wanted, you could wear a fitted top with bell sleeves and the bell sleeves would compliment the flare leg jeans (but I would make sure it was fitted in the body at least).

STEP THREE: Choose your hat.

GUYS I KNOW YOU ALREADY KNOW THIS ONE. BUT I STILL FEEL LIKE IT NEEDS TO BE HERE OK. Geez. Quit your judging. But for realz: floppy hats are my JAM. You’ll see me wear it in Friday’s post, too. SUE ME. Anyways. Because I was going for a 70s look (apparently that’s my thing now. See this 70s inspired post HERE), I needed the hat. Go for a hat that doesn’t have too wide of a brim so it doesn’t cover your face. A soft brown, black or tan is non-obtrusive and chic.

STEP FOUR: Choose your shoes.

HEELED SANDALS ALL THE WAY. Or platform heels. Either one works perfectly for this situation. I went with some heeled sandals because the platform heels I have don’t really go with this outfit. They are tan, so they match my skin tone and the brown heels matched my hat. I love the added height they give me so the flare leg jeans aren’t dragging on the ground. Because most of the shoe is covered, it gives the illusion that my legs are longer than they actually are which is NEVER a bad thing.

That about wraps up today’s #fashionwednesday. I love love love the 70s style that is coming back into modern fashion. I am such a fan and I feel like just about EVERYONE can pull of one variation of it or another.

  1. I just got a pair of flared jeans! I love to wear them just skimming the ground. I pair them with my wedges and a nice, sexy loose blouse.

  2. Haha, this post makes me smile. First of all, you mentioned going to the dentist… I’m sitting here waiting while my kid is at the dentist. Second, I’m currently wearing a floral top sililar to yours. Third, I have a flare jeans but could never figure out the shoe situation. I wore it in the winter with boots (I know you mentioned about boot cut) but now that t it is Spring,… just not feeling the heels. You style everything so well.. thanks for the tips.

  3. I loved all the outfit! I have to confess that I always like the flare pants on other people more than on me! But I really liked how you styled it and I’ll have to try them out until I find one that fits me better! ????

  4. Great suggestions! I just got a pair of the flare-legged jeans, but then regretted it when I got home and tried it on with my stuff. I mean, the jeans looked great, but I looked…frumpy. So I just put them away. But I’m thinking maybe I need to try again with a fitted top! That was my problem!!! You, my dear, are a genius 🙂 And may I say that your photographer is fabulous–those are wonderful photos!

    1. Thanks Jamie!! The fitted top is KEY!!! I can never wear flare legged jeans with a loose top — you’re right: it looks frumpy!! Also Erin is AMAZING, isn’t she?? I love her work!

  5. I love this look! I’m not ashamed to say that I am a flared-leg jean lover. I hate skinny jeans and have never been able to wear them (I’ve got soccer legs) and I think it’s so great flares are coming back!
