I have written about how I use a planner before (find that article here) but I thought I would break it down a little more for my blogging ladies and, lucky for my non-blogging ladies, it still TOTALLY applies! Breaking down your day in segments and color codes is one of the best ways to stay on track and in control. I know lots of people use google calendars or other online calendars, but to me, nothing beats the old pen and paper.

How To Use A Planner: Blog Edition

Step One: Choose your planner.

I chose this beautiful floral number as my blog planner. I usually use small planners, but I decided that I needed more space for my blogging assignments. I need to keep track of guest post dates, which posts I am posting and on what day, as well as when I am promoting on social media. All of that went into deciding which blog was going to be right for me. Think about what you are going to be using it for, and how much space you’ll need in each “day”.

Step Two: Color code.

Choose your weapon, ladies. Will it be colored pens? Highlighters? Colored stickers? The world is yours. I personally choose black pen and highlighter. I really like the clean lines a black pen makes and I need a way to keep seperate tasks just that, separate. I have a lot of colors so it works well. I also use colored sticky notes for different things as well. I use hot pink for spur of the moment blog post ideas that I need to jot down, I use lime green for social media picture ideas and I use light pink for collab ideas/deadlines. If you aren’t a blogger, you can use different color highlighters for school assignments or keeping your kids/spouses activities in line. Dates, doctors appointments and budget notes can all be tracked with this method.

(P.S. notice what this metallic bag is from? My Ipsy Glam Bag doubled as a perfect pencil case!!)

Step Three: Utilize your “weekly” space.

It is pretty self explanatory how to use the “month” space on a calendar. It can be really helpful to see your month at a glance so you know what is coming. Something else I look for in a calendar, however, is really good “week” space. I like writing down which pictures I want to post for social media because often times I take pictures in batches (what else am I supposed to do at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon?) so I like to be specific when planning my pictures. I also like to put in when I plan on posting my instagram and Facebook pictures to make sure they show up when my followers are most engaged and active. For my non-blogging babe, this is the perfect spot to put your daily activities: homework assignments, shopping lists and other things that are specific to your daily life.
