HAPPY #FASHIONWEDNSDAY! I am living it up in Charleston this week with Erica, her mama and my mama! It’s been the ULTIMATE mother-daughter getaway. We are definitely getting our fill of good food and making some fabulous memories. Today, I’m breaking it down when it comes to one of the biggest staples in your closet: denim. There are 3 basic styles that you need to round out your wardrobe – the skinny jean, the boyfriend jean and the flare jean. They can all look AMAZING – it’s just about finding the right fit for you. These are all from my Nordstrom sale picks – and are still available! I’ll link them all below. Let’s dive into this.

The Ultimate Guide To Classic Denim
The Classic Skinny Jean
This is pretty important: the classic skinny jean. There are so many styles of skinny jean that you are bound to find one that really flatters your shape and personal style. I personally prefer a medium to dark wash on my skinny jeans and love the lived in look. The more grain and texture the better! I think they slim up my legs and make them look longer. A few tips for shopping skinny jeans:
One: They should button comfortably. Don’t but them too tight – you don’t want any unnecessary squeezing.
Two: The back pocket should be in the right spot (even 1/8 of an inch can be the difference between an amazing butt and a not-so-amazing butt).
Three: Go for a mid to high rise to keep everything tucked in.
The Edgy Boyfriend Jean
This is my absolute favorite jean. In the spring, summer and fall – it’s my go-to. It’s relaxed, easy to style and can be dressed up or down. I love that I can wear both t-shirts and blouses. These particular pants are SO comfortable and so chic. I am obsessed with the undone cuffs and the length of the inseam. They’re also high-rise, which makes them easy to tuck tops into (the half tuck is one of my favorite looks). My top tips for shopping your perfect boyfriend jean:
One: Don’t get them too tight. They should be loose and comfortable to relax in.
Two: Scope out the right amount of distressing. They shouldn’t be falling apart.
Three: Always go for folded or undone seams for that “I don’t even have to try” kind of look.
The Throwback Flare Jeans
These are SUCH a throwback and I am LOVING it. The easiest way to style these is to wear a body suit or tuck in a t-shirt so that your waist can be the star of the show. They need a tighter fitting top to balance out the wide pant leg and to make your body look smaller towards the middle. When paired with a boot or a heel, they make you look leggy and tall. #winner Here a few tips to shopping these jeans:
One: Go high rise always. They are a pair of pants that just need that extra length to keep you from shortening your legs.
Two: Go for a dark wash if you want classy, and a light wash if you want casual.
Three: Always stick with a one color wash if you go for a dark wash to keep it professional and chic, and mix it up with light wash with distressing or acid wash styles.
