HAPPY #FASHIONWEDNESDAY! I know my blog uploads have been a tiny bit sporadic lately – one of the ONLY cons of buying our first home – but they’re gearing up to be back on track so NOBODY PANIC! I have spent Labor Day weekend building furniture, cleaning carpets, painting walls and hanging pictures to make our new house feel like a true HOME. We are 80% done with the changes we want to make on the inside of the house (the outside/backyard changes will come next summer – stay tuned), and just have a few more decor additions, a master closet revamp and some TLC to our basement to work on before we will be totally happy. The cats have been LOVING the new space and they are so happy to have more places to run and play (and that makes my cat mama heart happy, too)! ANYWAYS, it’s been a HOT SECOND since I actually worked on a true style post and I have SO much content built up to share so let’s dive into this gorgeous transitional pieces for fall.

There are a few tried and true rules to wearable outfits that go from summer to fall almost instantaneously. I love transitional pieces, because they make me feel like fall without sweating to death in the 90 degrees that is a midwest September. I love living in Missouri MOST of the time, but once September hits, ya girl is READY for fall. I am ready to PSL’s, cozy sweaters, tall leather boots, corn mazes, apple cider… I can’t help myself. This outfit template has been my go-to lately when it comes to wanting to bring that autumn feeling.

Step One: A good layering tee.

This is key because you want to be able to rock this with or without your cardigan. We all have tees that we only wear with a cardigan because of that one weird stain on the back..or our arms look weird in the sleeves..right? That’s not just me right? Moving on…this tee needs to be able to be worn with or without the cardi. You will most likely be tying your cardigan around your waist and/or draped over your shoulders so it’s essential that this top is a closet favorite. I chose my favorite striped three quarter length tee because I love how flowy and comfortable it is. This top could literally be anything you want it to be.

Step Two: A killer cardigan.

This is arguably the most important part of the outfit. It’s what makes this go from a summer time outfit to an almost-fall outfit. I chose my burnt orange cardi I picked up during the Nordstrom sale and it’s SO soft and comfortable. It is also warm, so when I’m in chilly buildings that are overcompensating for the heat outside, I feel the exact perfect temperature.

Step Three: A head-turning denim skirt.

Denim skirts have been my clothing bae’s for a few months now (they should honestly have been in a monthly obsessions already but they haven’t yet…maybe this is foreshadowing what is to come?). They are SO cute and this one from the loft is JUST the right length. It isn’t too short (because y’all know I’m not into that) and it isn’t that weird awkward length where I turn into a pilgrim from the 1600’s. Denim is also great because it isn’t going to clash with anything and it appropriate for both summer and fall.

Step Four: Open-toed booties.

Ok this is also a super important note. You want to have OPEN toe booties for this part of the outfit. Why? Because they are the in-between for summer and fall. Open toe Sandals = summer, closed toe booties = fall. Mix them together to create the perfect sandal / booties hybrid, and you get open toe booties. It’s the best way to say “yes, I know it’s 95 degrees outside, but it’s always a crisp 65 degrees in my heart”. 😉

My Favorite Fall Transitional Outfit

I am SO glad it’s September. I cannot wait until it cools off and I can start doing my favorite fall things. BUT before that can happen, I have NYFW and a press trip to Florida. So, until I can actually relax into autumn, I will be wearing the easiest transitional outfits so that I can feel a little more like a pumpkin spice latte in my soul.
