BULLET POINTS FROM THIS EPISODE:

  • Jennifer started working for her dad at Hungry Howie’s when she was just 10 years old. She made her dad promise that she would be able to help starting on her 10th birthday, so the morning she turned double digits, she RAN downstairs so excited to start working.
  • Jennifer is Vice President of Development at Hungry Howie’s now.
    • She oversees the purchasing, real estate and buildout of a new location.
  • She started to notice early on just how incredible MOMS can be at franchising a business.
    • They’ve been her favorite clients to work with and the most successful so far.
    • Moms know how to motivate people (especially teenage employees) and they are superb multitaskers.
    • The pizza industry is a male dominated career – and she desperately wants to share this experience with moms.
  • What does it look like if you want to open a franchise with Hungry Howie’s?
    • Jennifer spends 6-8 weeks with someone prior to starting official paperwork.
      • The goal is to almost talk each other out of it.
      • It’s a big investment and it NEEDS to be the right fit, on BOTH sides.
      • All of the expectations on both sides need to be laid out and talked about prior to moving forward.
    • If you decide to open a franchise, it’s great because you don’t have to invent the wheel.
      • They have the marketing, the plans, the system that WORKS already for you. You just need to be able to implement.
    • It’s so important not to be impulsive when it comes to this because you want to ensure that this will be successful : but if anyone has the guts to do it and the drive to make it work, it’s mothers.
      • Impulsivity isn’t what is going to take the cake here: allow yourself to think on it, simmer on it, roll it over in your brain.
  • Another reason this business is SO GOOD for moms is the fact that they have dozens of perfect connections:
      • Think elementary/middle/high school functions
      • Boy Scout / Girl Scout troops
      • Swim teams
      • End-of-the-school-year parties
      • etc.
    • You have the opportunity to create a “cornerstone” memory in kids minds: winning a championship game and getting pizza at Hungry Howie’s after it’s over, college class end-of-finals. There are SO many opportunities to connect with the activities your kids are ALREADY doing.
  • In terms of how the pandemic has impacted this franchise – it was relatively unscathed because it’s a delivery + carry out only.
    • They were still able to serve their community in a safe way with delivery and carry out not only for the general public, but also for volunteer opportunities for other places like schools and hospitals.
  • This can be such an incredible opportunity for moms to jump into and create something amazing that will continue to build.
