Hello, party people! Welcome to another #BEAUTYMONDAY at Blonde & Ambitious Blog. I’m so glad you are here. I start my first last day of school at 10:15 today. That is SO weird?? The last four years flew by. I don’t like Idaho all that much, but I do owe meeting my husband and some incredible friends I would be lost without to this school. So I guess I’ll always be grateful for that. But today, I am going to be demonstrating a half-up-half-down hair tutorial I have started calling the “twisted sister” that was highly requested by my followers on instagram when I posted this hair picture:
So this tutorial is SO easy. You guys are going to laugh at how simple it is. To start, you will be either day old wavy hair or freshly waved hair with generous amounts of dry shampoo. Your hair needs to be able to “stick” to itself so that the knot holds in place all day. That’s right: this isn’t a braid tutorial. This is a knot tutorial (hence — twisted sister, not braided sister). Still confused? Watch my tutorial below to get all the deets and recreate this look for yourself:
If you are wondering about the video I mentioned that shows you show to achieve the wavy hair look, you can watch it here: Mohawk Braid Tutorial (+ Easy Waves)
So what did you think? I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and I look forward to seeing all your creations on instagram!! Be sure to take me if you create this look yourself — I can’t wait to see what kind of spin you put on it!
The best part about this look is, as you can see, it look me less than five minutes to complete once my hair was curled. That is what makes it perfect day two hair. I love to do this on my second day curls because not only do I still look put together, but I don’t take all day.
As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you loved this hair tutorial! Please let me know if you want to see any other hair or makeup tutorials 🙂
I’m totally jealous you can do this with your hair!!
It is so easy girl!
I just chopped all my hair off, but I’m wondering how it would look on shoulder length hair – might have to try it! Very pretty!
Brandy — I’ve been growing my hair out but I ABSOLUTELY used to do this style on my shoulder length hair!
Super cute (hair and the name!). Can’t wait to try it!
Can’t wait to see it on you!
Ok, you made this look easy. I am going to try it!
That’s because it IS easy 😉
So pretty! Do you think this would work on short hair?
As long as you can pull your front pieces back enough to tie it will work!!!
Hair goals! This is gorgeous!!! I need to try!
Thanks Katherine!!!
Can you just come over to my house and do my hair? I will try your tips and tutorial… and keep my fingers crossed that this will look as fab on me as it does on you!
I’m ALL for a girl night!! 😉 I can’t wait to see how you look!!!!
So pretty! Can’t wait to try this on my hair 🙂
I love this hairstyle! So cute!
This is really pretty and I love how simple it is! I think I need to grow my hair out a little bit longer so that I can tie it in the back, but I might give it a go tomorrow!
Let me know what you think, girl!!!
So I think if I tried this with my hair, the knot would never come out:):)! This looks GORGEOUS on your locks though- love how simple it is yet how complex it can look!

LOL! It definitely doesn’t stick in a knot I promise!! But it looks more complex that it actually is!
I’m terrible at doing my hair, but I’m going to give this a try!
It really is SO simply, Catherine!
You hair looks amazing! I need to try this ASAP!
Rachel / http://www.seashellsandsparkles.com
Thanks Rachel!!! So glad you liked it!
You make this look so easy! I wish my hair cooperated more, haha.
I love this, it is so pretty, seems natural but attractive at the same time…
Thanks Karen!
That is such a pretty variation on the half up and half down. I love the twist in the back. Perfect for a date night. 1
Such a beautiful beachy look! It is gorgeous on you! It looks so easy!
It is easy 🙂
This looks so easy! I’m going to give it a try with my already wavy hair to see if it really is this easy!! Nice job!
Thanks Roxanne!
I’m gonna try this on my daughter because I can NEVER get any hairstyles on myself but her they work and she gets happy when I learn a new one to try on her. Thanks for sharing.
No problem girl!!!
Okay I totally need to try this! I just got a new curling wand that has taking me wavy beach hair to the next level of awesome and I think this would be a great look!
Thanks Julie!! Tag me in a picture so I can see!!!
Super cute! I love this, and bet it’ll be good on a day when I’m running late and don’t want the usual pony! Cute!
Thanks Patricia!
Ahhhh! This is so cute girl!
xo, Hales | http://www.sincerelyhales.com
Thanks girl!
Ok, that is crazy gorgeous! I am so trying this myself. I don’t experiment with my hair enough. You have totally inspired me!
YAY! Hair experimentation is the best! Let me know how it goes!
Okay. That is awesome. It looks so natural and relaxed. I love it.
Thanks Heather!!!
I did love this hair tutorial! I need more fun, cute hairstyles to utilize everyday.
This is such a fun hairstyle! I am always looking for something new so need to give this a try.
Your hair is so pretty. I wish mine would lay like this and hold wave nicely. It’s most of the time a mess.
This is such a pretty and natural look. I think that I could manage it.
What a fun and easy hairstyle to do! unfortunately I don’t think that my hair would look this good when I have done it! haha great beach waves
I am loving this hair style, it’s perfect for your everyday look or you can also have this during formal occasions like weddings and the like. I think it requires a little practice on my end but it’s not impossible to do! Thanks for the tutorial!
No problem Amanda!!!
What a lovely look! I don’t have the patience to do my hair, but, if I did…
I LOVE this!!! This is exactly the kind of look I need and I think my hair can actually do this, especially when it’s day-old wavy. Gorgeous.
Thanks girl!!! Tag me in pictures if you decide to go for it 🙂
BRB, spending all morning figuring this out on myself. HA.
Coming Up Roses
LOL. Erica. I want to see a picture of it all done 😉
I love this hair I’m new to curly hair. After chemo my hair came back superfine and curly! I have no idea how to do anything with it. I can’t wait to try this!
Let me know what you think!!
You make this look so easy. I envy you that you can do this to your hair.
You can do it too!
I can’t ever do my own hair. Just a ponytail here! But when my daughter lets me play, I go wild with her hair! I will def. give this a try on her next time!
It looks great and is much easier than I expected it to be. Thanks for sharing this tutorial!
I loved this post since I always lack good hair styles. Thank you!
Ok so now you have shown me how to do thi will you come over and do mine. Like seriously come do my hair.
lol!! girls night!!!! 🙂
Such a cute hairstyle. I love how you renamed it the twisted sister. Congrats on your last first day!
Thanks Tatyanna!!!
Love it!! Can’t wait to try this myself!!!
This is such a cute hairstyle! I really wish I could get my hair to stay this way but it’s so unruly! It’s impossible to deal with in a braid.
I’ll have to try this. My husband loves when I wear my hair half up but I rarely do because I don’t like to see a clip on the back of my head.
This might just solve your problem!
I so wish I had your hair! My hair is blonde, straight, and thin! Very thin. Most of my hair dressers will say I have “baby fine” hair. I curl it and 5 minutes later it’s straight! My only options are straight down or straight up lol! I love this look but it would not look great on me lol!
i have long hair and I have such a hard time styling it! Thanks for this! I’m definitely going to give this a try tomorrow!
Let me know how it goes!!!
Wow how easy is that! Great for a get up and go kind of day. I can’t wait to try it.
I saw this tutorial first on your Instagram and now I really, really want to try it. It looks fairly easy for something so dressy and elegant!
Thanks girl!!! I hope you like it 🙂
Oh, looks so easy. I will share this with my sister, she will surely love this!
Thanks Nicole!!!
This is so gorgeous. You make it looks so easy. I would love to try this on my daughter’s hair. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks girl!
I wish I was better at doing hair it would make me look so much better. All I can do is your standard plait nothing fancy like you
This is so easy I bet you could do it 🙂
This is a very cute hairstyle. I think that my hair is too thin for this though. 🙁
I have really thin hair too Rachel! Try a volumizing dry shampoo!
You have such great hair and this is such a fun way to wear it! I am terrible at doing hair, so thanks for the step-by-step tutorial.
No problem 🙂
SO cute! I love the messy wave hair trend so much right now. As my hair is naturally messy, wavy, and textured. After years of super straight hair being trendy, I’m psyched! This is the perfect way to style those wavy locks!
I’m so glad you like it Amanda!!!
This is such a cute hair style! I love how this style turned out, would be cute in my wife’s hair.
What a great tutorial! Your hair looks absolutely beautiful. I need to try this asap! I love styles that feature natural, textured waves.
They are my favorite too!
This is the first time my hair has gotten as long as it is. I love it, but I’m always looking for new styles! I think this would be perfect!
Let me know what you think Brittany!
My hair is not long enough for this but I love the look! I will have to let my daughters know about this hair twist and see how it looks on them!
Let me know what they think! 🙂
You make this look so simple, I must try it!
Omg just loving this!!!! I’m always Loki g for new ways to style my hair. I will have to try this
Very cute hairstyle. Thanks for showing off and how to create it. Good luck in the last year of school.
This is so cool – I need a new do – I’ll definitely try this!
This is so gorgeous! I love hairstyles like this. They are so feminine and romantic. I’ll have to make my husband do my hair like this hahah, since just so hard to do the back of your hair yourself!
Thank you so much girl!! It really is one of the easiest styles but looks SO put together.
This is so pretty! You are making me want to grow my hair long again.
Love this! I’ve been always curious how to do this hairstyle. Your tutorial is easy to follow, and you’re gorgous!
Thank you SO much 🙂
It’s so pretty! I wish my hair was a bit longer, but I think I can still do it with my LOB! Thanks for sharing the awesome video!
Keep smiling!
Molly | http://www.stylemissmolly.com
No problem, Molly! 🙂 Let me know if you try it out! I want to see it!!
You have beautiful hair. My hair is super long; I get lazy with it but need to start styling fun like this.
It really is so easy!
I love it. Now, could you come over and teach me a mini tutorial in person. I’m hair styling challenged.
Done! 🙂 Thanks for watching, Jill 🙂
Too adorable! My hair is too short for a braid right now but my friend would love this!
Definitely be sure to show her 🙂
What a pretty look, Taylor! Simple yet chic! Perf!

I want to try this on my daughter’s hair. It would be fun for a casual or dress up look.
Yes! Let me know how it goes 🙂
This is such a beautiful and delicate hairstyle. It’s perfect for weddings and events when little girls have to get dressed up.
I’m looking for new hairstyles to do with my daughter in the mornings. She’d love this one! It’s very simple and pretty.
