Hey, hey friends!! The weather is turning from comfortable fall weather to chilly winter weather, so it’s time for our next closet transition: fall to winter. This won’t be QUITE as dramatic as our summer to fall transition,  but it’s still important to make sure you are consistent with the weather and trends of the season! Here are my tried and true tips to transitioning your closet from 60-70 degree weather to 30-40 degree weather. Let’s dive into this.

RETIRE any remnants of summer.

If you are clinging to any last bits of summer clothing – then it’s time now to ditch them. Some key pieces to store away until next are:

  1. Sandals
  2. Shorts
  3. Open Toe Shoes
  4. Linen
  5. Tank Tops
  6. Crop pants

You can definitely keep some “New Years”-esque type things out (think sequin dresses or heels) – if you want to wear something for holiday parties that may be sleeveless or open toe but that’s totally up to you. For me – I prefer velvet with sleeves. 😀 Any ‘summer’ fabrics needs to go – your linen, straw, seersucker, chambray. Time to switch it up with some better and warmer fabrics appropriate for the season.

REBOOT layering pieces.

Now is time to find out which pieces you can keep that layer easily for the winter. Think about these pieces: graphic tees, light jackets, denim. For your t-shirts, decide what you can layer easily. It’s better if they’re long sleeves – but even if they are short sleeve, you can still make them work. Figure out if they work underneath cardigans or light sweaters, layering plaid tops, etc. If they can ONLY be worn alone: patch ’em away for next year.

Keep a select few pairs of light denim, but otherwise focus mainly on dark denim for the winter months. It’s easier to style, and dark denim looks better in the winter months. Light denim tends to lend itself better for spring and summer.

REFRESH new pieces.

These are either being bought new OR pulled out of your storage from last year. Figure out what is still in style and able to be worn this year, and then make a list of new items you need for the season. It was time for me to invest in a new jacket this year – so that was on the top of my list.

Sweaters, boots, jackets, scarves and long sleeve tops should be what you are focusing on for the season. Pull out your seasonally appropriate fabrics out like your flannels, velvets, wools and silks. It’s their time to shine!

Winter is really a good time to start accessorizing with classic pieces like statement necklaces, leather bracelets and more. I’ve been personally LOVING my pop charm bracelets for layering and accessorizing my winter outfits. They are easy to put tighter, and they are sentimental!! You can add different charms to the bracelet and they make amazing gifts for the holidays. They are definitely one of my very favorite pieces of the season so far this winter. I have black leather and light pink leather and I’d LOVE to add red leather to my collection soon, as well.
