HEEEYYY friends! This is a much-requested blog post topic, and since we’ve been doing a bit of traveling with Jack via airplane, train AND car – I figured it was time to get this written so that I can help you guys before holiday travel happens! Traveling with a baby doesn’t have to be super stressful (although I know that is much easier said than done). It is easier when you travel with a partner, but it can be done on your own, too. If I can do it, anyone can do it. Jack is still under 6 months old, so I can’t speak to what you’ll need for babies older than that necessarily, but I assume much of it will stay the same sans a few more toys/things to keep them busier. Let’s dive into this.
PACKING GUIDE: BABY EDITION!
DIAPER BAG:
- 4-6 diapers
- Large pack of diaper wipes
- Diaper rash cream
- Diaper changing pad
- Muslin swaddle blanket
- Extra pacifier
- Pacifier wipes
- Pacifier clips
- 2 extra changes of clothes
- Empty bottle
- Travel formula packet (even if exclusively breastfeeding – you never know when an emergency will arise when you can’t feed your baby)
- 2 burp cloths
- Plastic baggies to put wet/dirty clothes in
- Extra copy of baby birth certificate
- Hand sanitizer
- Surface sanitizer
- Sunhat/beanie
- Sling or carrier
CLOTHES:
Depending on how long your trip is going to be, this will vary. I am going to use our Thanksgiving trip to New Orleans as my guide for this post – but the general rule I follow is 2-3 outfits per day you’ll be gone not including the outfits in the diaper bag. I overpack on clothes because there is not always a washing machine handy AND babies spit up, puke, drool and poop all over themselves all of the time. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to the amount of clothes you’ll bring.
We will be gone Tuesday – Saturday for Thanksgiving so here’s what I’m packing:
- 6 pairs of socks
- 10 pairs of pants – a variety of fleece joggers, cotton joggers, and two pairs of jeans.
- 10 long sleeved onesies
- 5 pairs of pajamas
- 3 beanies
- 2 swaddles
TOILETRIES:
- Shampoo
- Lotion
- Baby brush
- Nail clippers
- Vitamin D drops
- Wash cloth
- Hooded towel
- Extra burp cloths
- Extra wipes (we bring 2 extra packs)
- Extra diapers (we bring enough for 6-8 diapers per day. We will be gone 5 days, so between 30-40 diapers)
TOYS:
- Sophie The Giraffe
- Rattle
- Baby Bum Stuffed Monkey
- Sloth Blanket Toy
- Teething Ring
EXTRAS:
- Pack N Play
- Stroller
- Carseat
- Baby Carrier
- Noise Machine
Making a packing list for a baby can seem super daunting – but hopefully you found this list helpful, concise and easy to follow yourself!! You know your baby best, so there may be things I didn’t include on here that you need! OR I may have included things you don’t need – like a swaddle or noise machine. 🙂
