Happy National LOVE YOUR PET DAY!!! I am so excited because you guys know I have 3 of the best pets in the whole world – and I basically can’t stop myself from taking any time I possible can to show them how much I love them. #sorrynotsorry. Today I’m going to be talking about SIX WAYS you can show your pet how much you love and appreciate them this time of year. Let’s dive into this.

How To Show Your Pets LOVE on National Love Your Pet Day

ONE: Get active with your pet!

Today’s the day to get out and get your pet moving – and hopefully build some great habits for the future. Go your dog on an outdoor walk or to the park (weather permitting), or run around the house with your cat (both of mine personally love hide & seek and fetch). However you choose to get active, make sure everyone is getting their heart rate up and enjoying the activity!

TWO: A special toy JUST for them.

Izzy & Chester aren’t the biggest toy lovers BUT they DO love a good catnip toy (but what cat doesn’t, amiright). So if NLYPD, I plan on picking them up their own little catnip filled toy to keep them busy and happy all day long. Lots of pet stores offer a bunch of different toys like this from catnip plants, to catnip filled mice/balls/other object. The options are endless.

Archer LOVES toys and is always ready and willing to add a new one to his collection at home. He’s a fan of nylabones (the bacon flavored ones are a real fave), kong toys, tennis balls and ropes. I think I’ll stop by the store and pick up some more balls to throw around in the backyard as it gets warmer. 

THREE: Order a monthly subscription box for them to get something special EVERY month!

I love the idea of a subscription box for your pets!! There are TONS of options for both cats and dogs and I have been toying with the idea of biting the bullet and just having them come to the house for the pets monthly. How fun, right??? Izzy & Chester probably wouldn’t get AS MUCH use out of something like this as Archer, but I’m a sucker for anything subscription. A few notable boxes are BarkBox, KitNipBox, Whisker Box, Cuddle Crate, PupJoy and Dapper Dog Box!

FOUR: Feed them their favorite food for breakfast & dinner.

Our pets get Royal Canin for their food and it’s a party every time we pour food in their dishes! Make sure you are celebrating the day with a healthy and balanced breakfast and dinner. A good diet of Royal Canin pet food is just the thing they need to keep a balanced diet and give them enough energy to play with all their new toys.

FIVE: Order a full spa day so they can feel pampered. 

We LOVE Yuppy Puppy Pet Spa!! They are our favorite pet spa and we always love taking Archer in. Archer had his training there when he was little for 4 weeks with Oscar and it was the best experience. Now that he’s a bit older, he goes for puppy day camp to continue socialization every now and then, and to get a full groom. They do full baths, nail trims, fluff dry, ear cleaning, paw pad maintenance, and more. You can also add optional services onto the groom like teeth brushing, anal gland expression, coat shine and more. 

SIX: Watch a pet-themed movie and snuggle on the couch. 

One of my favorite movies for pets would be Secret Life of Pets! It’s such a cute one and definitely on theme for NLYPD. All three of my pets would agree. Snuggle in with blankets and pillows and make it a date with your favorite pooch or feline! If Secret Life of Pets isn’t up your alley try one of these pet faves: Air Bud, Marley & Me, Cats & Dogs, Secret Life of Pets 2, Bolt, or Puss in Boots. All good options and very pet-friendly. 🙂
