You most likely woke up this morning thinking — “oh wow I really hope that Blonde and Ambitious Blog does a post on organizing my jewelry because I am a hot mess and could really use some help”. Understandable. But because I like to grant wishes: I did, in fact, write a post about organizing your jewelry because I, like you, am often a hot mess. Probably more so.
So without further ado:
Jewelry can often times be a serious pain to organize. Necklaces have this really cute tendency to tangle themselves up in drawers or in boxes. I love when they do that 🙂 Earrings get lost, and then you only end up with one half of a pair (lovely, I know) or you lose the backs and then you can’t wear them and it’s AWESOME and so much fun. Eventually you say, “screw it I didn’t even like jewelry” and forgo it completely. been there, done that…
Jewelry Organization in Three Steps.
BUT jewelry can seriously pull an outfit together so we need a plan. A plan to organizing all of the things so that you can find them when convenient and they don’t get tangled and you don’t lose earrings and everyone is happy and joyful and we all look smokin’.
Now you are thinking, “Wow she really read my mind. Tell me more!”
Allow me, my friend.
STEP ONE: Gather all your various jewelry items in one place, organize them by type (necklace, earrings, bracelets, etc), and lay them out so you can see what you are working with.
STEP TWO: Decide your plan of attack. I, personally, have three different types of jewelry holders/organizers/whatever that I use to display my jewelry on. Not one of those things is a jewelry box. I don’t want to hide my things. I want to show them off. “Hey look I have cool necklaces, too!” That kind of thing. Here is what my jewelry holder-y things look like:
Ta-da! This works for me since I have 78% necklaces and 22% other stuff. I kind of lump my sunglasses in with my jewelry because it all kind of falls along the line of accessories to me.
STEP THREE: Purchase or clean off or DIY your favorite jewelry holder. Find a fun spot and get to decorating. I like easy access, which is why my method works well for me. I can easily see what jewelry I have when I am looking for something to go with my outfit. They are all displayed out in the open. They are on my head board, so I can see them clearly if I’m standing by my closet (which is cool because then I don’t have to walk back and forth).
I like my little three tiered cupcake holder looking thing because I have my earrings on top (with plenty of extra space should I get more), my bracelets and “bagged” jewelry in the middle so I can grab those if need be, and the bottom tier is big enough to house my sunglasses. Which is nice because I have more sunglasses than anyone should possibly own. It’s getting embarrassing. Also I just think they’re pretty right there.
I love my cute little baby sized dress form. I have a real dress form at home and it is one of my favorite things. It is a classy, very neutral way to hang my more delicate pieces. If you prefer to hide your sparkly things, by all means, you do you girl. Find something that works for you. This is just what I prefer.
SO now that you have begun to decorate and get everything figured out jewelry wise, do you feel better? (also ps: dust before you put anything up because you’ll want to start fresh.) I hope so. Did you learn something new today? If you did, let me know in the comments or tag me on instagram (@blondeandambitiousblog) showing me how to organize your jewelry!
I love the three tier baskets. I have a beautiful heart that I think was supposed to be for keys, that I use to hang my favourite necklaces.
I would LOVE to see a picture of that! Sounds adorable (and PERFECT for February!)
Your organization is so cute! I’m terrible at organizing… But this inspired me to buy some more jewelry haha

Thank you! Organization does NOT have to be a hassle….it can be cute and fun, too 🙂
I have so many necklaces and I can’t see them well because they are all layered in front of each other. Great tips for organizing them!
Thank you!!! I hope you can use them.
Your organization is so beautiful! I love the miniature dress form and the chicken wire frame, you made your jewellery into something akin a piece of art. I keep my necklaces on a dress form and my rings in a vintage vanity tray!

Thank you so much!! 🙂 decoration is a lot of fun.
I love your jewelry holders! I think it’s a great idea to leave them out on display…I need to look for some holders like yours at the store!
TARGET! Seriously. They have so many perfect jewelry displays. And also, if you are looking for a cheaper alternative, I got my cupcake tier display and my framed wire hanger at Icing for so cheap!!!
I’m moving in a few months and I will be using these tips to keep my jewelry neat and stylish.
I am so glad!! I love when I am able to help 🙂
