Happy #beautymonday! Today, we are going to be talking about the very basics of makeup: foundation basics. Foundation is the very base of your makeup (outside of primer, if that’s something you choose to wear), which means it’s going to create the flawless start to the rest of your face. It affects how the rest of your makeup sits, and how it lasts during the day makes a huge difference in how your makeup continues to hold up and look throughout your wear time. The very first step to figuring out foundation is to choose your foundation shade. In my video, I go over my 3-stripe trick to nailing the perfect shade, as well as my trick to applying it so it lasts all day long. Let’s dive into this.

I really hope my video helps you with the very basics of makeup: foundation. A lot of you request that I do these back-to-basics videos every now and then to either teach those of you who are brand new to makeup new skills, or refresh those of you who have been doing makeup for a while.

I know this seems SO simple, but honestly, you need a good base for the rest of your face to look good. It doesn’t have to be super full coverage or matte – it can be so light and dewy. Either way, the techniques are the same and they transfer over into any brand foundation and any coverage or skin type.

  1. Thank you! This is helpful! I say I fall in the new to makeup and have no skills category haha, so it’s nice to learn from someone that is way better than me!

  2. Honestly, with my skin-tone, it can be incredibly challenging to match foundations. I usually end up mixing products to achieve the right shade – or sometimes just reaching for something a bit darker so that it can at least match my undertones. But your video was super insightful!

  3. Great tips on choosing the right foundation! I always try to be on the more yellow side rather than pink because of my natural skin color. xo, Suzanne
