Happy #BEAUTYMONDAY, everyone! I shared this foundation last week in a first impressions instagram story video – and today I’m going to be doing a full review + 12 hour wear test. Flesh is a brand that I was super skeptical of in the beginning when they first launched – I’m not going to lie: their brand name, and honestly some of their product names, really turned me off and I put off trying their products for a long time. When I finally DID decide to bite the bullet and actually try them I was SUPER surprised to find that I actually LOVED the products I was testing out, and their stick foundation is one of my all-time favorites. When they sent me their Pure Flesh liquid foundation, I was really excited to test it out to see if I liked it as much as their stick foundation. Let’s dive in to see if it’s worth the hype!

REVIEW:
First of all: this is not a full-coverage foundation. So if you are someone who wants insta-glam full coverage foundation, this is not going to be it. It’s a very natural, satin finish with a buildable, medium coverage. AKA exactly what I personally look for in a foundation. When applying, I use two layers for a semi-full coverage (it won’t cover stubborn acne or severe sun spots, acne scars or hyperpigmentation) and spot concealed my acne with a full coverage concealer. I love that it let my natural skin shine through without looking cake-y.
It comes in 40 different shades, and they all correlate with their stick foundation shades. So, I knew I was 05 Creme Fraiche in the stick foundation, so that is the color I chose for the liquid foundation. They are the exact same shade, so there was no guesswork there. They claim it is suitable for all skin types, and I can speak for my normal-oily skin that it did not exacerbate my oil and it didn’t slide around my face all day long. It does seem as though it would be good for dry skin, too, since it is that natural satin finish vs matte finish.
It does not have any kind of scent, which is perfect. I prefer my makeup to be fragrance-free if at all possible. It is also vegan and cruelty-free, so you can feel good about putting this on your face!
WEAR TEST:
FIRST APPLIED:
It has a real photo-finish feel, it softens my lines around my mouth, sits nice on my nose, sits nicely on my forehead. The light was a little brighter here than the other pictures because it was taken in the morning. This picture was taken RIGHT after I applied – so there isn’t any settling into my fine lines.
SIX HOURS IN:
The light was a little harsher here because it was in the afternoon – so you can see more texture on my cheeks and forehead. My nose and chin are still covered well. My forehead is starting to have some lines showing, but nothing that isn’t easily touched up.
TWELVE HOURS IN:
Ok so I did a close up of this one. It was late afternoon so the contrast on my camera was a little harsh again. My forehead lines are more apparent here, and some of the foundation has come off my nose and my chin. The texture is much more prominent on my cheeks, as well. This is pretty normal for 12 hours of wear, and I still don’t think it looks that terrible!

The first ingredient is water – which makes sense because it is a water-based formula. It gives it a weightless feeling on the skin and sinks in really nicely. The next two ingredients are skin-conditioning agents and they are determined safe for use in any quantity on the skin. Aloe vera comes next and is used to soothe and hydrate the skin throughout the day (it’s one of the ingredients they list as “skin-loving”). Pomegranate extract is also used in this ingredient list to contribute to the “velvet” texture of the product. Squalane (used as a lubricating agent) is usually derived from animals (like shark’s liver), but this product is touted as vegan so I’m guessing they got it from olive oil, rice bran oil, or amaranth oil. The next few ingredients are emulsifying agents and none of them pose any health risks according to the FDA. Sodium Dehydroacetate is a preservative that is used as an antimicrobial ingredient. Sodium Hyaluronate is another product typically derived from animals that I assume is instead derived from wheat-free fermentation. Coconut oil is the next ingredient, so if you are sensitive or break out from that product, maybe proceed with caution when it comes to this foundation. The remaining ingredients are comprised of things like Ginger Root extract, citric acid, radish root ferment, and skin-conditioning agents.
Overall, I’m super impressed with this ingredient list. I think they did an excellent job with the formulation and there isn’t anything on this list that gives me pause. Plus, it is formulated without paragons, phthalates, petrochemicals, mineral oils and silicones.
I really like this foundation. I would rate it an 8.5 out of 10 for the wear test. It did start to remove off of my chin and nose, but I have yet to find a foundation that truly sticks to those places on my face after 12 hours. It still looked amazing after 6 hours, so I’m not complaining. I would rate it a 10/10 for the ingredient list. I feel really good wearing this foundation – not just because it looks nice during the day, but because it’s friendly to animals and good for my skin.
