Happy Thursday! I don’t know about you, but this week is FLYING by. A and I have successfully started watching Futurama for the 100th time in a row, my kitties are still besties, and I have locked down most of my plans for NYFW. Coincidentally, I was also just accepted for my first credit card……. 😉 Today, I wanted to focus on something I’ve been really working on lately: a yogi’s mindset. Even if you don’t regularly do yoga, it’s still important to carry with you a sense of peace and meditation throughout the day. Here’s why you should adopt this mindset, and how to do it!

Why Everyone Should Adopt A Yogi’s Mindset

Why Everyone Should Adopt A Yogi's Mindset

There are three steps you need to consider when adopting this kind of mindset: Growth vs Fixed, Self Study & Awareness, & Discipline. The benefits of adopting these skills into your life include (but aren’t limited to): a more peaceful thought process, more positive outlook on life, less stress in everyday situations and the ability to learn new skills with greater ease.

Step One: Growth vs Fixed

Experience yoga-goers (or yogis as they will henceforth be known) have adopted super healthy mindsets that help them get through the day and cope with everyday situations. The first thing they learn to overcome is a FIXED mindset (I actually had a professor in college who taught me this concept, and then I carried it over to yoga)! A fixed minded person believes that their talents are stationary. They have what they have, and they can’t move beyond that. If they can’t do it, then they can’t do it and no amount of work is going to change that. A growth minded person believes that the more you work at and practice something, the better you’ll get at it. They believe anything can be learned and developed with time and practice.

Step two: Self Study and Awareness

This is a big one. It’s one I still struggle with – but I’m working at it. Yogi’s practice self study and awareness EVERY DAY. They are in tune with their body, and understand it’s needs. This can come through daily meditation. I’m working to become more aware of my body and my mind. This also centers around removing negativity from your thoughts. It’s so easy to think harsh or negative thoughts about yourself or others, but learning to shove those to the side to make room for positivity is important. Banishing thoughts like that as soon as they come to you is key.

Step Three: Discipline

This is usually the hardest part for people. Learning each pose in yoga is hard. Having a constant positive attitude is hard. Remembering to think in a growth mindset is HARD. This isn’t something you can just have all of a sudden. This kind of mindset takes work – daily. But if you can achieve the discipline necessary to utilize this kind of mentality, you will be in a healthy and happy place.

I won’t say I’m perfect at these steps (because I am DEFINITELY not), but I do feel like I’ve progressed a lot since starting yoga, especially in my outlook on life. Not that I was an infinitely negative person before, but I have my fair share of envious moments, gossipy times and not-so-nice attitudes. I’ve been working SO hard to ensure that I am keeping myself on the GOOD side of karma…cause you know she can be a B 😉

I am so grateful that I’ve been able to take classes at my local yoga studio. I’ve been doing hot yoga and vinyasa flow and it’s been really great in helping me maintain a yogi mindset and regain my flexibility from my dance and cheerleading days. I personally think that since taking these classes 3-4 times a week, I’m less stressed and more cheerful. I also feel less tired during the day (even though I get up earlier).

  1. There are so many benefits with practicing yoga regularly, but I find that I can’t feel fully relaxed throughout the classes or sessions that I even do at home. I want to focus more on meditating and incorporating yoga from there to be more mindful and aware. Loved reading more about this!
