Raise your hand if you think that cleaning your whole house weekly is extremely daunting (all of your hands should be raised). Raise both hands if you have toddlers, pets or men living in your home…and your cleaning routine just isn’t what is should be.

Today I am bringing you a piece of advice that will change your life (if you follow it…which you won’t always. because life happens…and that is okay). Cleaning your home, depending on the size and number of pets+children, can be a nightmare if it isn’t kept up with. And I don’t know about you, but I like a clean home. My little house is relatively easy to keep up with because A) it is one bedroom and B) I don’t have any children. BUT, the easy to follow guidelines I am going to give you today are both mom-approved and will cut down your Saturday morning cleaning time by more than half, I promise. So let’s jump into this.

Weekly Cleaning Routine Checklist

Some quick notes about this list: this is not the end-all-be-all of cleaning checklists. If something is dirty, clean it right away. Also: sanitation is completely up to you. This list mostly represents the bare minimum one can get away with and still have a clean and presentable home. If you are more of a neat freak…by all means, add some more to that daily list! Use this as a guide to get started. 🙂

blondeandambitiousblog-com Little germ fact for you: the average desk has 400x more bacteria than your toilet seat. GROSS. Part of my major at college involved taking an entire course strictly on bacteria. Most importantly, the bacteria that we come in contact with in our homes every day. After that, I cleaned our house obsessively every day for weeks. After I realized that was ridiculous and I wasn’t getting anything else done, I sat down to make this list to keep our house clean, organized and bacteria-free (mostly — unfortunately…we can’t kill everything).

I hope this helps some of you and from now on, you are able to keep your home spotless (again…mostly 😉 ). I know I always feel and work much better when I am doing it in a clean home. And now, you can have that, too…without sacrificing valuable family time (or friend time…or play time…whatever is your fancy).

Be sure to pin this checklist and share it with your friends! Let me know in the comments below how you like to keep clean and what your favorite room in the house is!

Until next time,

  1. That is a great checklist! I like to tidy up common rooms at the end of each day. Just takes a couple of minutes and I always feel refreshed when I walk out of my room in the morning. Thanks for sharing your checklist!

  2. There is nothing better than having a clean house. It’s driving me crazy that I am still unpacking after moving and so even when things are clean they don’t feel like they are. Thank you so much for the list! I think it’s going to help me get my booty in gear so that I can finish getting my house back together and feeling clean

  3. I think I have a similar check-list already! I wipe my desk down every other day, I got in the habit when I worked in the bank because clients were always soooo dirty, though then I did it every day!
I love love your bathtub photo!!

  4. What a helpful list! I feel like I think better when my house is clean. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case. Hopefully this will help. Stumbling to share.

    1. I think window should be cleaned once monthly. I always do my windows (inside and out), and the window frames once a month. If you have littles or dogs, I would clean glass doors bi-weekly because of little fingers and wet puppy noses!

  5. 400x more bacteria than your TOILET SEAT!! GAH!! I had to read that part out loud to my kids who all in unison said EWW! I agree, eww!! So, I guess you know what we’re doing today, and I don’t think I’ll have a problem either. 😀
    Thanks for sharing.

  6. Great list to start off with! I have 6 children, so I know the meaning of “cleaning” everyday and “deep cleaning” once a week. My seasonal cleaning involves, windows, walls and so on. Great post!

  7. Absolutely amazing! As a former cleaning business owner and professional, I can tell you that checklists are the only way to go! Nothing says efficiency like a checklist. It’s also good that your lists are lightly balanced.

  8. Yep…. Have totally tried this genius cleaning routine a few times. Looks perfect… but I can never stick with it, as easy as it is. So – the weekend is always the “winner” to do it all. Sigh…

  9. I love this! I’m literally the worst cleaner in the world. I hate it and don’t do it unless I REALLY have to, but something like this makes it easier to break down and means I’m more likely to actually do it!

  10. Being a mama of 4 and married YEAH I need to keep a list in check EVERYDAY otherwise they would win Ha. Love your list.. As a matter of fact I was going to start my planning for next week.

  11. It’s one of those days when cleaning is the last thing I feel like doing… but your glamourous, clean photos make it seem worth doing. Thanks for inspiring me to make my home looks as nice as yours.

  12. What a great infographic! I will admit that I probably won’t be doing any of those things religiously. I do make the bed everyday though! I’ll just show this to my husband and get him to do it. LOL!

  13. I used to think I never needed a cleaning checklist b/c I know how to clean my house. But having kids and a super busy schedule means a list does the thinking and reminding for me!

  14. Girl I needed this! I always feel so overwhelmed with the house… I just started homeschooling, I do my blog, AND I just took a part time social media marketing job. It doesn’t leave a lot of other time… This is extremely helpful!

  15. I love housecleaning and I love keeping my home fresh! My list is huge! I love the simplicity of yours, it feels manageable!

  16. This was a great list-I’ve been looking for something I could print out & keep in my planner to remind me what was on the cleaning schedule for the day, so I hope you don’t mind that I printed this off so I could hold onto it! Great list, girl!

  17. I like reorganizing and cleaning my closets every season, too. It always feels refreshing to start a new season with a clean closet. I try to clean my linens once every two weeks. Love your cleaning tips!

  18. Good checklist. We just did a major cleaning last weekend. Now I’m trying to tackle the clutter that two kids, a husband, and myself have accumulated. Ugh. 🙂

  19. I make sure that I have a checklist at home as well. I don’t like breaking from my cleaning routine or missing anything around the house either. I love that you divided these from days to weeks to months, that’s so much easier especially if you’re cleaning the house on your own.

  20. I hate to say that I need this, but I do…a lot. I am really good at the purging, and the deep clean seasonally, but the everyday stuff seems to get away from me too often.

  21. I love your guide! I love having a clean house but I struggle with keeping it clean as in dusted, swept, etc but I always keep it picked up- everything is put away and counters are clear. I have two dogs that shed A LOT and it’s impossible to keep up with. My goal this fall is to get into a cleaning habit and stay on top of things.

  22. I need to print this out and put it on my fridge. I hate those days when I wake up and have to clean the entire house – it’s impossible! And you’re right when you have toddlers and they “help” you, it take 50 times longer than it should.

  23. I am literally PRINTING this lol – it’s going on my fridge so I can maybe have some semblance of an organized home. I’ll need to add “clean up your constant stream of craft supplies throughout the house” to the ‘everyday’ list lol <3

  24. I use a list very similar to this for cleaning my house! If I had to take on cleaning the entire thing every time I would be beyond overwhelmed!

  25. These are great tips. I think I do a lot of these things more often than on the list but it’s a great base for people that don’t know where to begin or may feel overwhelmed.

  26. What a great checklist!!!! With Fall pretty much gear I’ve been in full cleaning mode trying to prepare for the colder months!

  27. That would really help me stay in check on my cleaning. I know that there are certain things that don’t get cleaned regularly around my house because I just can’t remember them all. This would remind me.

  28. My favorite room of the house is my office and living room! My house is kind of messy (but I don’t really mind). We plan buying a house by the end of the year, which will definitely help me keep everything cleaned all the time, since there will be more space and since we will buy lots more furniture!
