BULLET POINTS FROM THE EPISODE:

  • As moms, we feel like we have to be perfect. A Pinterest-version of ourselves: the perfect mom, the perfect wife, the perfect friend.
    • Motherhood isn’t a title to be taken lightly, moms are like superheroes. We are forced to stretch ourselves and give SO MUCH of ourselves. We learn to be flexible and giving and share all of ourselves to our children.
  • We do not need to compare ourselves to others moms or children: it’s unfair to ourselves to do that.
    • Teachers aren’t going to know which one year old ate solids or didn’t eat solids, they all even out when they need to and it’s OKAY to let some of that stuff go.
  • Infertility and miscarriage can be so hard on your mental health. Kallie went through two miscarriages before turning to IUI to conceive Miles.
    • You are NOT alone if you are going through this. So many women go through this that don’t share their struggles
      • Reaching out to people is not weakness. There are communities that are there and helpful and lift you up when you are going through this.
      • There is hope and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
    • There are certain things we know not to say know to people trying to get pregnant.
  • Sometimes businesses fall into your lap and you are able to take them and run. When we started our businesses, blogging / YouTubing really weren’t “jobs”.
    • Kallie fell in love with marketing and social media and pursued it full-time.
    • You wear a MILLION HATS when it comes to being a content creator.
      • Photographer
      • Editor
      • PR
      • Customer Services
      • Marketing
      • Etc.
    • Covid REALLY affected a lot of bloggers and content creators because of the loss of ad revenue and marketing budget – a lot of pivots had to be made in order to stay successful.
      • It’s so important to rely and lean on those around you.
        • FIND A SYSTEM that works for you: a set schedule with your S/O to help or hiring someone to watch your children for a few hours a week makes a huge difference.
    • Jobs like this feel SO FUN – but treating it like a business is hugely important in order to keep mentally sane and healthy.
      • You have to learn to roll with the punches and be flexible wherever you can.
  • Can you have it all?
    • That is such a tricky question – it all comes down to perception and methods and strategies to be productive.
      • It also comes down to what type of person you are. Neither of us like to be idle, so working hard and being productive comes second nature.
      • Use the metaphor of glass balls vs rubber balls:
        • Think of your life as juggling balls. Some of them are glass and some of them are rubber. You need to assign certain things to the glass balls and certain things to the rubber balls. The rubber balls will bounce, but the glass ones will break. You will learn to recognize what can “drop” and be okay, and what can “drop” and shatter. That helps prioritize.
      • Comparison is the thief of joy – you need to work on what is in front of you and find the joy in that.
        • Once you get to that point, you will be able to move forward and get where you want to go.
  • What is your advice to business owners with little kids or those wanting to start a family?
    • You need to adjust your expectations. Realistically, not everything is going to get done.
      • If you want to be a content creator, some things are going to shift.
        • Maybe your social calendar isn’t as full so you can get work done when your partner is home on the weekends.
        • Maybe your house isn’t going to get cleaned TODAY, but you can do it in the evenings or weekend.
    • You need to remind yourself that it is OKAY and work on creating a prioritized to-do list.
