HAPPY FRI-YAY, fam! It is the LAST day of August. So. You know what that means: it’s time for MONTHLY OBSESSIONS. This month has been crazy between buying our first home, spending a week in Charleston, SC and #100daysofmakeup. I’m ready for a month long NAP but I guess I’ll rest when I’m dead because September brings NYFW and a press trip to Florida so I’m going to be running running running for the next month, too. #sendhelp Luckily, it’s all good and exciting things coming up so I’m not mad about it. This month was a little crazy so I feel like I didn’t have time to try a bunch of new things to put in my obsessions list but these are definitely things I’ve been using constantly and loving. Let’s dive into this.
August 2018 Monthly Obsessions
Booties from Downeast
I got a bunch of new booties in the mail from Downeast for NYFW and they are SO CUTE THAT I CANNOT DEAL. Booties are my absolute favorite shoe for fall because they’re easy to walk in and add a lot to an outfit. These 5 are my top right now because they’re muted shades but distinct different colors, and they each have fun patterns.
Shop them here:
Saltwater Taffy (courtesy of Charleston, SC…homemade and SO good)
I am kind of obsessed with saltwater taffy and Charleston DELIVERED. I picked up a bag of homemade taffy from Charleston’s Own at the bed and breakfast we stayed at and I’ve been trying REEEEALLY hard to not to eat the entire bag. I’m not going to say I’ve started going to the gym more because of the alarming rate I’m consuming taffy…but I’m not NOT going to say that.
Glitter
Glitter shoes. Glitter dresses. Glitter eyeliner. Glitter eyeshadow. Literally all things glittery. I’ve been doing a ton of glittery looks for 100 days of makeup and I’m LOVING IT. I’ve always been a glitter girl but lately I haven’t been able to put it down in any of my looks. So, I’m sorry in advance if you aren’t into glitter…I don’t think it’s going away any time soon. #sorrynotsorry Also S/O to BH Cosmetics for the big box of loose glitter they sent over recently in FALL colors. I’m talking olive green…dark brown…burnt orange…glitter. Nothing could be better. Literally.
Anything with Pom Poms or Tassels
I am REALLY into tassel jewelry and pom pom clutches. They’ve been really fun and unique for summer, but I’ll probably put them mostly away for fall. That’s why I’m getting them all out of my system now. If you’re looking for some styling tips, try these:
- They make perfect statement pieces so don’t overdo it with your other accessories!
- You can definitely mix and match if you’re feeling crazy: just make sure one is an accent to the other and they aren’t competing for space.
- Rule of thumb: tassels for earrings and shoes, pom poms for tops / dresses or bags.
Glade Car Plug Ins
These made my 13 hour car ride to Charleston a WHOLE lot better. We had a total of 26 hours (if not a few more) in the car when we drove down to SC and road trips usually make a car smell….not the greatest. I think it’s the mix between candy, slim Jims and whatever Starbucks drink I’m downing at the moment. By the end of the ride, nobody wants to be in the car at all. LUCKILY this handy little plug in made my car smell like Hawaii the entire trip, there AND back. I will never travel without these now.
IKEA Furniture and Home Decor
This happened because of the whole we-bought-our-first-home situation. I have a big love affair with IKEA. Adam and I will often go furniture dreaming as a date and do dinner there, too. Does that make us real adults? LOL. I’ve been checking out IKEA catalogs like it’s my job. Today, we are actually going to check out my office. We are bringing home my new desk and some fun decor pieces. I cannot wait to do my office reveal.
Uberliss Bond Sustainer
I reviewed a bunch of Uberliss products here so be sure to check that full review out BUT this bond sustainer has really been at the top of my list this month. I have some damage to my blonde hair from bleaching and using heat tools on too high of a setting (rookie mistake) so I’ve been slowly trying to correct it. I’ve been using this bond sustainer once a week in addition to daily conditioning hair masks, and I can really see a difference in my hair. I still have some ways to go, but I feel like the bond sustainer really helps repair my damaged blonde hair.
Urban Decay Aphrodisiac Palette
This was a palette Urban Decay sent over a few weeks ago and I think I must have totally missed the launch because I hadn’t seen anything about it! This is another fun mini palette (I love my mini palettes because they’re perfect for travel) and the colors are GORGEOUS. It’s like a mini version of the backtalk palette which is one of my faves. It’s great that they’re putting together these mini versions of bigger palettes for a few reasons: 1. they’re more affordable if you are trying to build your collection 2. they’re much more travel friendly.
Basic Invite Stationary (perfect for my new office!)
I am kind of a stationary fiend. Basic Invite is one of my favorite places to get stationary and there are almost endless customizable options, which makes it perfect as I’m trying to redo my whole office. I love that I can add pictures to my stationary, and my logos which is awesome when I design my business thank you cards and what not. They also do custom designed wedding invitations for my ladies who are engaged and looking for a site to get your invitations done! They look SO beautiful and if I could get married all over again…I’d totally use Basic Invite.
My BFF (Best Face Friend)
THIS THING IS SO COOL. I haven’t been able to stop using it this month and I think it’s been a game changer for my skin. It’s the perfect easy size for travel with (god BLESS) and it really gets my face clean. I’ve been using it in conjunction with my new skincare system and my face feels clean and fresh. I’m really trying to get a handle on my acne and I think this is a great step in the right direction.
PIN THIS FOR LATER:
This year is speeding by SO fast – the fact that it is September tomorrow is BEYOND wild. September is bringing New York fashion week, a trip to Florida (both trips with Erica from Coming Up Roses, my main squeeze) and unpacking, painting and decorating our new home. So many things on the horizon! Here’s to a busy, full, and happy life. <3
What have YOU been loving this month? Let me know in the comments below!
I would have never thought to buy a plug-in for the car only for a trip! That makes so much sense though! And of course, I’d prefer the smell of Hawaii over our choice of whatever flavor of pork rinds, coffee drink, or Powerade we usually have!
Good thinking, lady!
